Guest guest
Hi , I wouldn't recommend any one anti-virus program over another. I don't think anyone program has done consistently well in testing! But most do above average consistently. I have used the DOS version of F-Prot (http://www.f-prot.com/f-prot/products/) but it is not a Windows 'point-n-click' program and it doesn't come with a memory resident scanner that would be necessary for detecting email attachments! I would possibly purchase a copy of the Windows version if I could afford to, as it does have a memory resident scanner (like the other programs mentioned here) and F-Prot have a very good reputation in virus detection! As for free anti-virus programs I was using (and still do as a back up file scanner) InoculateIT Personal Edition (http://cws.internet.com/virus-inoculate.html), this program is no longer updated as a program (i.e. no new features are added anymore CA have other commercial offerings) but they do still provide update virus signature files allowing upto date virus detection! Another program I have used that is free but use less often is " AntiVir Personal Edition for Windows 9x " (http://www.free-av.com/) usually requires a big download to update it as it insists on updating the whole program for the free version instead of just the virus signature file. AVG is my current anti-virus program by choice it has a DOS boot scanner (so checks for boot up viruses before Windows starts) and a memory resident scanner plus can scan disks and files. AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) can be set to 'tie in' with Outlook Express and Outlook.
