Flu kills Maricopa County child

PHOENIX (AP) — Maricopa County health officials say a child has died of the flu,

and the unusual occurrence at this time of year has prompted public-health

officials to suggest earlier vaccinations.

The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/q7Mog3 ) reports the child's death was

confirmed Tuesday. It's one of three flu cases reported in Maricopa County this

summer. The other two cases were in adults.

Details about the child's identity, location and exact date of death were

withheld for privacy reasons. However, health officials say the child lived in

Maricopa County.
