(PRI) on Thursday said that it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to market oxaprozin tablets, a generic version of Pharmacia's osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis drug Daypro. PRI said that its subsidiary Par Pharmaceuticals would immediately begin distributing the generic drug. The Spring Valley, New York-based firm said it co-developed oxaprozin with Merck KgaA. PRI won FDA approval in mid-February for a generic formulation of Eli Lilly's anti-psychotic drug Prozac (fluoxetine) 10 mg and 20 mg strengths, which the company expects to launch around February 2002.
