not exactly food bars, from Marks daily apple: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/cocoa-and-coconut-snacks/ Seitz, DC Tuality Physicians 730-D SE Oak St Hillsboro, OR 97123 (503)640-3724 From: drscott@...Date: Fri, 9 Dec 2011 15:26:29 -0800Subject: Food bars

Instead of making sugar cookies for Christmas, we want to try to make food bars from rice, nuts, dried fruit, maybe some powdered protein, and maybe some good tasting oil. (The oil slows stomach emptying so you don't get hungry as quickly.)

What do I use to stick it all together?

Seems like some things are stuck together because sugar and powder (flour/whey solids) are baked and solidify.

Do they need to be baked?

Is there a way to make them without baking?

Seems like some things are mashed together with oil and ie. Ground almond powder and then rolled in sesame seeds so they don’t stick to everything.

Any ideas out there.

Nora Unpronounceable Name has a great recipe for nut balls.

I often use nuts and dates food processed together rolled into balls and the

rolled in unsweetened coconut. I have also used nut butter, honey, whey and

bee pollin again rolled into balls and then in coconut flakes. Unsweetened

coco powder is also a good addition. Theo Woods, DC

Here's a recipe from Ravid Raphael, DC. I tried one and got the recipe, but have not made them yet. I thought they'd be good rolled in unsweetened flaked

coconut. They are DELICIOUS! :-)

Ravid’s Eclectic Sephardic Haroset

1 cup chopped filberts

1 cup chopped almonds

1 cup chopped walnuts

5 oz (by volume) chopped dates

5 oz chopped raisins

5 oz chopped figs

5 oz chopped prunes

5 oz chopped apricots

3½ tsp ground ginger

1½ tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground cloves

½ tsp ground cardamom

1-2 oz sweet red wine or grape juice

Use a food processor to chop the nuts and dried fruit.

Mix the ground spices with the chopped nuts.

Then mix each type of chopped dried fruit separately into the nut/spice mixture so there is a uniform distribution of each type of dried fruit as the mixture gets heavy and difficult to mix.

Add sweet red wine or grape juice to taste.
