Brain Fog and Carbs

I'm an O- of unknown secretor status. With my tendencies, I'd guess 'non'.

Anyway, while I've always been carb sensitive and shy away from as much

sugar and starch as possible, I've had something odd happen lately that I'd

appreciate an opinion on.

For the past few weeks, when I have almost any carbs during the day (even a

salad with a slightly carb-y dressing), I get extremely sleepy immediately

afterwards, brain fog, the whole works.

I'm taking some antifungals (diflucan and nystatin tabs) these days, that's

the only thing that's really different. Last doc visit my doc said a little

hypoglycemia was present but no big deal.

Any chance the situation (likely blood sugar fluctuation) has to do with the

antifungals or something? This happen to anyone else?

Thanks for your input.

What are you taking the antifungals for?

Hi CB, I have not had quite the same but similar and just noow have that brain

fog problem. Last weekend i was away and uncharacteristically had a lot of

avoids - esp wheat and cheese and my brain just will not work now. This is what

i consider being toxic. My body has a lot of toxins in it that it is slow on

eliminating and i will just have to eat clean, drink a lot of water and perhaps

take something to help support detoxification. I have a product from the ND but

you can also use silymarin - altho I cannot remember if that is an avoid or

not.... I have used it before without any problem ...

When you are taking anti-fungals there are toxins from the yeast die off and

they can make you feel very flu-like and even cause diarrhea, headache and

certainly brain fog.

Eat clean, exercise, possibly have a epsom salt bath, exercise and sweat, drink

water and more water....

Getting sleepy from carbs is usually from larger amounts and is when there is an

insulin response and the insulin carries the main amino acids to the muscles and

lets the runt tryptophan slip across the blood brain barrier and convert to

serotonin... Not sure if that would happen with small amounts unless you have

really been low carb for awhile.

Hope this helps. Ann
