Hi ,

I take Oxycodone on bad days. In fact, I just read the label on my

prescription and it says to take it every six hours. Someone in this group

suggested it and my rheumatologist -- who has had JRA since she was 15 --

agreed that it is a good, safe painkiller.

There is another painkiller that is spelled almost the same and I freaked

out when I read in Newsweek Magazine how bad it is. After I checked my

prescription, I realized there were a couple of letters different in the

names of the two drugs. For all I know, Oxycotin might be a stronger

version of Oxycodone. I am not sure how the other one is spelled, but I

think it is Oxycotin or something like that.

What a difference pain management can make. Some countries in Europe

figured it out years ago. They don't let their terminal cancer patients

suffer at all -- they give them heroin.

I hope you find something that helps a lot, because I remember how miserable

every day and night was before Enbrel came into my life!

Sincerely,

Patsy

Subject: [ ] Rheumy appointment

You will all be proud of me. First of all, last week, I wrote a letter to

my rheumetologist, Dr. Marks about all that has been going on in my medical

life and what I consider possible effects on my RA treatment. That is my

big surgery, subsequent bleed and blood transfusions and no methatrexate for

2 months. I still have a draining wound. I am also having my 4th remicade

on Tuesday. Well when I was in the hospital and on morphine I had no RA

pain but since being home and on no pain meds I have major pain. I have

done a lot of reading on several of the websites you recommended, mainly

Arthritis Insight about pain management and now I have told him this is what

I want to address on Tuesday-be prepared. I am. I have made up a list of

possible options the most promising for improving quality of life seems to

be oxycodon. I have read with interest some of your comments but I can't

go on like this. There was a very interesting article on Arthritis Insight

called I think " The argument for Narcotics " It made allot of sense to me.

I have had percoset after surgeries but have pretty much used it as an

emergency crutch for pain not as a means of addressing chronic pain. Anyway

I'm prepared, hope Dr. Marks is too.
