Hi, Your story sounds so much like mine - but I have trouble sleeping if i take

the carbs too low. I was doing a combination of " Protein Power " and ER4YT when i

lost a lot of weight. I am hoping that with exercise i can eat a little sweet

Potato or brown rice.

You did not mention fruit???? Heidi

LOW CARB, ETC.

I have been following the thread on low carb and non-secretor status

this last couple of days and am now convinced I am probably a

non-secretor.

When I first started ER4YT 2 years ago I lost about 10 pounds, then

stopped. Try as hard as I might I just didn't lose any more. Then I

stopped Ezekiel bread and almond butter. I ate just ONE slice a day

for breakfast with just a bit of the almond butter but it was just

enough to keep the pounds from dropping. Of course I ate the

occasional sweet potato and a little rice too. After stopping the

bread and almond treat I lost 37 pounds then I went on vacation for

Thanksgiving and lost my momentum.

I started ER4YT again in mid-Feb this year. Then in March I started

doing the low carb/high protein. I have lost 58 pounds so far.

Whenever I cheat, even the tiniest bit, the pounds creep back. Funny

though, NOT the inches! I MUST be REALLY allergic to carbs!

I do not count ratios. I ONLY count my carb intake. I limit myself

the 28 total carbs per day. I do not limit my protein. I do not

watch the fat grams either. My cholesterol has gone from 212 to 170.

I am off diabetic meds.

I drink 3 - 4 liters of water in a day. I do not leave work unless I

have had a minimum of 3 liters passed through me. The more I drink,

the more I want. Five liters will WASH me out - I guess it takes all

my potassium.

I sleep better unless I am stressed or feel cold. If I have trouble

sleeping I drink a cup of CAL-MAC tea. (calcium - magnesium, it helps

relax me).

I guess my diet is boring to some but it makes it easy for me. I know

EXACTLY what I can eat or not. Egg or meat or a protein drink for

breakfast. Salad and meat for lunch, repeat for supper. I watch the

carb count of the salad veggies - some are high so I either limit them

or discard entirely. No bread, or rice, or sweet potato. Except

every 3 to 4 weeks when my metabolism needs a kick in the *ss! Then I

enjoy myself, but I start seriously back on my new lifestyle of eating

on Monday morning.

REPLY: Sorry, you're right - I don't eat fruit at all. The only

natural vitamin C I get is from tomtatoes. I take vitamin C capsules

daily too though. Someone said that one piece of fruit is 27 grams of

carbs. That shoots my whole food budget for a day since I only allow

28 total a day.

Yes, when I note that I am drinking too much water I make myself slow

down. It is so weird though....I was always told that when you feel

thirsty it is already too late, you are already dehydrated. I can

drink 3 liters of water and am thirsty as if I had not had a drop.

Seems the more I get in me, the more I want.

I notice too that by drinking so much water I am not hot all the time

either! I am in the Deep South and I turned off my air conditioner 2

weeks ago and we just got a cool front through here yesterday.

What is " overdo the water " ? My trainer recommends one ounce per pound of body

weight. i.e. if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 150 oz per day.

I'm impressed ... going to copy you as from today. I also drink a

lot of water and have stopped fruit altogether ... but can't shift a

pound. Oh - the frustration! Now I'm going to do exactly like you

do and see if that makes a difference.

Botanically speaking, the tomato you eat is a fruit. So is a watermelon, green

pepper, eggplant, cucumber, and squash. A

" fruit " is any fleshy material covering a seed or seeds.

Horticulturally speaking, the tomato is a vegetable plant. The plant is an

annual and nonwoody. Most fruits, from a

horticulture perspective, are grown on a woody plant (apples, cherries,

raspberries, oranges) with the exception of

strawberries.
