I remember someone saying that they use smaller needles to draw out the

enbrel and use. It seems that the needles that come with the enbrel keep

bruising jesse's poor little leg.

I don' t remember who it was but if iam right please tell me what size gauge

the needles were. I don't know it the drug store will sell them to me cause

he is not a diabetic and they don't sell the needles without a dr note. iam

sure jesses dr would give me a prescrition for them if its going to be less

painful for jesse.

If you talk to your pharmacist, they can help you find a one cc syringe and

needle that will work well. I use a 30 gauge short needle insulin syringe

and it works much better than the Enbrel syringe. In our state, you do not

need a doctors order but if you do there, the pharmacy should be able to

just call your doctor for an order. Needles have never bothered me but I

had a terrible time with bruising from the Enbrel needles and now that I

use the insulin syringe and needle, I am not having any problem.

Kathy,

you can put the water to mix it but then take it out with a smaller needle

that way the needle isn't as dull and when it goes into the skin its less

painful and less of a chance to bruise the injection site.

My Dad has diabetes and you would have to fill the needle several times to

get the right amount, they are very small and you need a prescription for

them.

You do have to use a 100 unit syringe and that will hold all of the Enbrel.

You are right, most insulin syringes are not large enough that is why it is

important to have the pharmacist help you - you need one that will hold one

cc. This disadvantage to the 100 unit syringe is that it is very narrow and

may be hard for some people to hold.

Another option is getting your syringes and needles through the clinic. If

you do that, you can get a larger syringe and the smaller needle but it

would be more inconvenient and probably cost more.

Dear :

You should be able to get your Dr to order smaller needles. I think you mean

that the medication comes in prefilled syringes. If the needle comes off the

syring a smaller needle could be put on the original syring. Somes syringes

have needles that don't come off on prefilled syringes. You have to twist it

to see if you can remove it. Then a smaller needle can be put on. Although

if the medication is very thick it may be difficult to inject with the

smaller needle. I am not familar with embrel and it's thickness since I have

never used it.

Good Luck,

Colletti RN
