Swine flu: United States declares public health emergency

The United States declared a public health emergency on Sunday amid an outbreak

of 20 confirmed cases of swine flu.

The emergency declaration was " standard operating procedure, " said Homeland

Security Secretary Janet Napolitano as officials said there had been 20

confirmed cases of swine flu in five US states: eight in New York, seven

California, two each in Kansas and Texas, and one in Ohio.

Besser of the Centre for Disease Control Prevention said " we will see

more cases but we are responding aggressively " ...
