Body-scanners unsafe: Czech nuke office January 16, 2010 AP

The head of the Czech nuclear watchdog says she is against the use of full-body

scanners at airports because of a risk they pose to passengers health.

Dana Drabova of the State Office for Nuclear Safety says the scanners that use

X-rays are " too risky " because even a minor exposure to radiation could lead to

the development of cancer.

Drabova said on Friday airports should use thermal cameras instead, which she

said provide similar results.

Drabova said her office's opposition to the scanners could change if the

government considers the risk of terrorism higher than radiation concerns.

The Czech government, which has a final say on the matter, has not yet decided

whether to introduce the scanners.
