On the theme of quackery, I visited my dentist the other day for a tooth ache

(for which there is apparently nothing wrong - though my C1-2 is terrible and

has been for some time so I am suspicious of it as the cause). He was wearing

on his elbow one of those magnigicent $320 AUS magnets!! Apparently it was to

help his " tennis elbow " because he couldn't make it to the physio regularly. It

was supposed to do this by " interrupting " C fibre conduction.

I was surprised that a learned man had opted for this. It seems that science

doesn't matter for people who are desperate to get better (or I " m paying him too

much for my dental consultations!).

Maybe I should get one of those magnets for my tooth!

There are those who " pray " for the sick and there are those who " prey " on the

sick. " Quacks " use misinformation to " prey " on the desperate and gullible.

These two links concerning " quackery " are informative, educational and humorous.

I hope you enjoy them and maybe have a good laugh.

Note: Hopefully, my post on quackery is appropriate for this group. (If you

need to edit it; it's okay.) The fear that disease generates makes provides

fertile ground for quacks.

By the way, the Musseum of Questionable Medical Devices

is quite interesting and located at the Science Museum Of Minnesota in St. .

(Had to make that plug for our local science museum.)
