I have a ? regarding osteoporosis and meat consumption~

....I know at this point that isolated proteins in any form are harmful for

someone with osteo

I know we need the fat soluble cofactors from meat etc..

In studying Weston Price... the healthiest tribes seemed to be the one's

with the most meat consumption ~they had no tooth decay and very

strong/straight teeth and bones and no osteo

I have also heard other things about meat/protein consumption causing acidic

state and body having to buffer pulling cal out of bones?? Some say is

harmful for kidneys

hmmm... I think of Atkin's diet which is all protein~ he is a medical

doctor ~a cardiologist

.... Why would he promote something if everyone would be getting kidney

failure

I guess my main question in posting this is....

Why did these people in sub-Saharan Africa or other cultural tribes not have

osteo from so much meat consumption (acidic state etc) What were the

factors ?? Were they eating meats with proper ratio of Omega6 to Omega-3??

Was it they were eating all meat raw?

What were the factors?

If someone this day and age were to replicate that... would it have same

effect or different??

would meat have to be raw to have same effect?

What are the factors?

Hi Jen

I don't know a great deal about the effect of to much protein n the

body. However, I do know that Atkins diet isn't all protein - it's

actually around 60% of calories from fat, 30%-35% from protein and

the rest from carbs. Dr A would not advocate a diet which is all

protein.

Secondly, native tribes eat a LOT of fat with their meat. In fact,

20,000 years ago or so, when we humans lived off animals, we would

eat the fatty bits of the animal, along with the organ meats and

brain, and leave most of the lean meats to the scavengers.

Hope this helps a little
