I would love to hear other peoples menus too. I ate fairly simply and

healthy before so the big thing for me is to cut out pasta other than spelt

or other non wheat - switched to Ezekial bread - eat sweet potatoes instead

of white - and no corn. I eat fruit till about noon or if I need to eat

more usually toast with almond butter and honey. Lunch try to eat salads

with salmon or something in them. Eat some grilled almond or soy cheese

sandwiches ( don't do dairy and use to be predominatly vegetarian). Today

had tuna salad. Obviously I need ideas too. Dinners usually chicken or

something with a veggie. Still like a lot of brown rice. Do spelt instead

of whole wheat in my vegetarian pancakes. (From the Fit for Life Cookbook).

My favorite meal of all is brown rice, baked beans and a yam. Stir frys are

good. Remember not to overdo the acid foods - balance all that protein with

alkaline (veggies). Personally I still don't believe in getting too carried

away with animal proteins. Beef doesn't agree with me. Try to stick still

with fish, etc. But I am trying really hard to avoid the avoids. Pinto

beans are good for us. Simple is the key in my opinion. Jeanie of Alaska

Great idea for dressing! I like olive oil with lemon juice and vegit - but

like the idea of tamari. Jeanie

PS: What I do for salads is buy a couple of heads of lettuce - romaine

and a leaf lettuce for instance and slice a few cucumbers and a whole stalk

of celery and make it up to munch on for about 3-5 days. If its only for

one only use one head of lettuce and less other stuff. I hate making

salads, so this saves me some trouble. Just have to make sure you eat it

quick enough. You can add other stuff to it as desired. Jeanie

Terry, this may sound like a simplistic answer, but the absolute best thing

you can do is learn how to cook. Start really simple, but get started, and

you may be surprised how interesting it can be. I have found breakfast to be

the most difficult meal if I am out of my own kitchen - everything is wheat!

Try Ezekiel bread (makes great toast) and an egg. Or dip the bread in the

egg and make French toast. Maple syrup or fresh fruit or jam on top. Lunch

out is easier -- look for salads with grilled chicken or seafood. Then try

putting together a salad at home to take with you to work. A great simple

salad dressing is olive oil, lime or lemon juice, and a little wheat-free

tamari.

Just take it one step at a time, and let us know how you are doing.

Hi, Terry! You bought the book on your doctor's orders? Wow! What kind of a

doctor do you go to? My experience with MDs has been that most do not know

very much about nutrition. I am also a fast-food junkie (not by choice),

although I do love cooking but don't have the time. Cooking is such a

wonderful creative thing to do, you will love it once you find some good

things to make. Yum! I eat fast food sometimes because I am at work looking

for something to eat while I sit at my desk (not a healthy thing to do, I

know). I think there is a niche out there that needs to be filled --

fast-food healthy drive-throughs. What do you all think? Carol

Hi, ! I eat out frequently because I'm at the office during the day,

and one of the 'stand-bys' I rely on is chicken Caesar salad because it has

the romaine lettuce and the chicken, although I know it has parmesan cheese

which is an avoid, and I try to avoid it by scraping off the lettuce leaves

if I can. I guess I'm bound to ingest a little, but I try not to since I

don't particularly like the taste, anyway. Also, I don't eat the croutons.

I also ask for dressing on the side, which I apply sparingly if at all. I

know it's not the best answer but because we lead such busy lives,

sometimes we just have to do the best we can do. My dream is to stay home

and cook properly but right now I have to suffer through and feel bad

because of it. When I follow the O diet, I feel so much better. As far as

Mexican food is concerned, I believe they use either pinto beans or red

beans, which of course we can eat. Rice is a neutral. Chinese food has all

those vegetables and rice, so it seems like it would be good for us, but

you know how it is with food you don't prepare yourself. You don't know

what's in there. Any ideas, anyone? Carol

Fast food is just about impossible. " Menu " type restaurants give you more

choice and therefore control over what you are getting. Chinese menus with a

basic rice and entrees that are beef, seafood, chicken and veggies work out

pretty well. Mexican will run into corn, sour cream, cheese. Thai is heavy

on coconut and coconut milk.

And you can't beat a good steak with a veggie salad. Learn to order rice

instead of potatoes and you are all set. Same goes for seafood. You almost

have to insult the waiter to avoid having a basket of bread set on the table,

and it's hard to resist once it's there.

Well....you must remember that chinese food has MSG which we don't need at all.

I,myself,

am appalled at how much MSG is everywhere in our food. It causes problems such

as hair

loss and other health related problems. It can do damage to your gall bladder

or your

sleeping problems. MSG is not good for both A and O. I am Blood type O and

learned

that MSG causes hair loss which I am experiencing right now. Just simply ask

the people

who run Chinese restaurants to eliminate MSG from your food. They will glady

accept it.

Just tell them that you are " allergic " to MSG. They will obey you! They work

for me!

Japanese food is great....I eat sushi...but not with raw food.....such as raw

fish. I just cook

up japanese rice which I find very excellent in taste and roll them up in

seaweed. Just

remember seaweed is RICH in kelp. We, blood type O's, need a lot of kelp to

regulate

our thyroids. I encourage you to learn how to make and eat sushi. Just be

aware that if you

put in raw fish...it can cause food poisoning. If you go to a japanese

restaurant, you MAY

be safe because they know how to keep you from getting food poisoning. Don't

rely on raw

fish in the U.S. or Canada. BE CAREFUL!

Not sure if the list is letting me post yet, so I'm also responding via

PEM. Gosh, looking at that list, it's likely I have thyroid prob's.

Going to see how ER4YT over the next couple months does before I head to

a doc., though.

But that's not the reason for my reply. Just wanted to pass on something

I heard about a couple years ago ref. hair loss. There is a common

ingredient in most shampoos that can lead to hair loss, which is sodium

lauryl sulfate or SLS. It's pretty hard to find a shampoo that doesn't

contain it, at least in the grocery stores. Health food stores are a

little better. I even tried a shampoo where that was pretty far down on

the ingredient list, and I had problems with that also.

Just an FYI .... off-topic though it is!

In restaurants, Chinese can work ok, but ask about the corn starch. A lot

of times they use corn starch to thicken their sauces.

Hmmm, until this very moment I never thought of wheat in the " soy " sauce.

Eating out is a challenge. Maybe a plain old American restaurant where you

could order fish and veggies would be best.

I'm struggling with this too. I'm not required to go out to eat as in the

omnipresent business lunch, but I get sick of my own cooking. Sick of

shopping, cooking, cleaning up and tired of whatever's in the fridge...by

the end of the week. I want to go out to eat but .....

Thanks, Swoosie. I forgot about Japanese restaurants (I who was macrobiotic

for years!) Here in Berkeley, CA we even have a Japanese restaurant or two

which will give you rice and steamed vegetable with ginger pickle and soy

sauce (wheat or not? do they know if it has wheat, or not?)

I was disappointed by a Japanese snack counter which I thought would provide

lots of rice flour snacks (in a moment of desperation last eavening...long

commute home) Almost every item had wheat in it!!

Swoosie....hair loss can be due to thyroid problems. Maybe have that

thyroid checked or check it yourself some by taking your temperature. Some

say you need to take the temp under your arm as soon as you wake up in the

AM and before you get out of bed. If it is around 97 for a week, your

thyroid is not up to speed (hypothyroid).

Here in oddball Berkeley California, and its unique neighbor, Oakland, there

actually are some stores that carry whole meals of healthy food that you can

buy and take home. Often they are of the macrobiotic persuasion which

probably is grand for A's and B's. We do have a fast food stand at the

Universtiy fo California, Berkeley which serves all organic vegetable foods

and you can get the fillings without the wheat bread rapper.

There's hope....

Hello...

This is Swoosie. I was checked out by my doctor two weeks ago on that

possibility

for a thyroid problem. She asked me many questions such as weight loss or

gain...(which

I don't have), cold hands and feet along with " cold sweat " and it can occur

while you

are sleeping....(I don't have that), constipation, lethargy (I don't have that

either bec I have

this boundless energy which I don't know where it is coming from!), skin

changes...none,

and last of all, coarse hair which I don't have either. So..she put me on

Stress B complex

along with vitamins D, C, and maganesium. I have been taking them for three

weeks now

and my hair is considerably soft and it is not falling out anymore...however,

the front is

thinning. My doctor thinks I am under a lot of stress because I have two

children to worry

about and just started this diet as well. She said that once you change your

way of eating, it

can cause hair loss temporarily and a lot of changes in your body as well. My

periods have

been stable for years and no changes. (knock on wood). It can be other

things that cause

hair loss. Unfortunately, I just learned from my mother the other night that it

runs in the

family. She said that when she was my age...34 to 35.....her hair thinned out

and she

changed her ways of eating and etc. So..it seems when we hit our thirties, our

bodies

change dramatically. It is a " wake up " call to start taking care of ourselves.

One thing I have trouble with is excercising. I don't really like to to it

anymore because

whenever I get into an excercise regimen, I tend to become compulsive. I would

keep going

and going without stopping and it nearly destroyed me mentally. I am afraid to

get back

into that and start all over again. I walk a lot. Since I have two boys, I

run around alot

chasing after them outside....which is good for me.

I must emphasize this.....coffee, aspirins, tylenol, msg, and other drugs can

deplete your

vitamin B complex plus other nutrients and can contribute to hair loss as well.

(My mother

in law's herbalist told me) So...it must be the way I eat and it needs to be

changed.

Wheat is something to look out for. I remember when I first read the ERYT-O

list and

reasons, wheat was considered an allergen possibility in most of us. I was

shocked and

did not believe it. However, I did cut down on wheat and my sinuses had cleared

up.

All summer I did not have an allergy reaction like I had most of my summers.

Amazing!

It is hard to eliminate wheat from your diet entirely because most things are

made with

wheat...and it is FRUSTRATING AND INFURIATING. It would be nice if there

was a company that makes food for our blood type and we can order it via

internet. That is

just a silly dream! But...think about it. :-) It would solve our dilemma,

eh?

I hope to hear from you again!

Thanks Carol!

With Chinese, a lot of the sauces contain cornstarch and msg. I got some

scallops and veggies the other day, but they were plain. Good but plain. I

That is not such a bad idea to have food ordered for our blood type, or to have

a helath food store place all the " O " friendly things together in one aisle.

Maybe with some financial backing one of use " O's " can do such a thing.

It would sure make life a whole lot easier aye?

Amen to that! Many of us have probably had the same experience. Nothing

The friend of mine who gave me the ER4YT book said the biggest problem she has

with the diet is social. Hard to find something to eat if you go out to a

restaurant with friends...have to turn down the birthday cake at the office

celebration...have to say no to that freshly baked bread your friend just made,

forgetting you couldn't eat wheat... She decided the only solution was to get

all her friends turned on to this diet. Worked with me. She's an A and I'm an

O.

So we could do a similar thing with our local stores. It would especially work

of course if you got all your friends who were recent enthusasts to hit up the

same store.

Yes you are right. Maybe we should really start promoting this diet aye? Most

people I talk with though, just shrug their shoulders and say yeah, yeah,

whatever.

Well we shall see who catches the flu this year and who doesn't aye? Anyways

the two people that introduced the diet to me are no longer on it due to the

hassle of finding foods they were able to eat. I just make my own bread from

spelt flour and avoid anything from the store other than meats and stables we

can eat.

Sorry, but it means ...right?

I have picked that up somewhere along my travels. My husband is always razzing

me about it. I guess it is just an affirmative of what I have already

said...not really sure why I use it, but have for years.

When I tell people in my life that I am trying this diet and it seems to really

be helping me, I get a variety of responses but no one, so far, is interested in

it for themselves. I work (get this!?) in a major medical research facility.

When I told my boss I thought I had passed a gallstone she was sympathetic.

When I decided to go to a Chinese herbalist, she was supportive. When it didn't

work out (remedies for another blookd type?), she wasn't disappointed. When I

told her I was trying the blood type diet, this was just a little farther than

she could go. She's a former emergency room nurse so, after a wild flutter

flashed across her face, she pulled herself together and said something

noncommital, but it was the flutter of distress, of mockery, of disbelief. Oh

well. She doesn't do my cooking.

I doubt people will stick with this diet long unless they were pretty

uncomfortable beforehand and unless they see some marked changes pretty quickly.

It is inconvenient, isolating, and expensive. And, it works.

Canadian, Kirk. Canadians end many declarative sentences with, " eh? " I always

thought it was spelled " eh. " But then, I am not Canadian. Aikya
