Guest guest
Do carob chips have corn syrup in them? Hate to bring it up but I got my swollen ankles and fiery feet from the carob chips I happily bought. Got'em in a bulk place so couldn't read the label. Guest guest
The palm kernel oil is something else I did notice. That seems kind of contradictory when you buy carob chips as a 'healthy' alternative to chocolate and they are dense with saturated fat...ugh. Guest guest
I've also found Soy Nut Butter in my health food store. It's really good and it's hard to tell the difference between it and Peanut Butter. I've been eating a lot more soy with this food plan, too. Soy milk, etc. This helps with the menopausal thing in my case. I have refused to take estrogen because it makes me sick. The lowest dose raised my BP to 144/88 when it's normally about 90/60. Guest guest
Our health good store that just closed down was the only place intown here that had them. In VA I use to eat a type non dairy with the brandname something like Chadwick - Chad something. They are out there. The ones I found up here have whey. Most have palm kernel oil. Not sure about that. Jeanie Re: meat, flax, coffee, success > From: Runtshell@... > > where does one find carob chips that don't have milk???? Guest guest
I know what you mean about carob chips with milk. The ones I saw in the market (after I bought the ones in the bulk bin in another store) said there was whey in them. Well, at least you can get the powdered carob and my store said it was just carob for heaven sake. Guest guest
Carob is my chocolate. I am really bummed that I can't find ones I can eat anymore too. Guest guest
I'm not menopausal - yet - probably permenopausal - but I like soy too with its phytoestrogens. I drink a soy drink around PMS time sometimes and it seems to help even me out. Lots of B complex is important too for that. Helps the liver turn the estrogen into estriol instead of " bad " estrogen which is what wreaks havoc with us. Thanks - I should be doing that now but haven't been. Yes - almonds and almond butter have calcium. I use it on toast but would like to try the soybutter cause I like PB but have an allergy to it along with it being a forbid and, to me, almond butter, doesn't fit the bill that way. By the way - I just had a salad with olive oil, lemon and instead of the usual vegit I tried Bragg Liquid Aminos and it was really good! Someone recommended tamari, but I got some of this recently as a soy - tamari substitute. Made strictly from soybeans and distilled water. The sodium is naturally occuring in it. 110 mg. per 1/2 tsp. Lots of flavor though. I really like it. Just have to go easy cause of the sodium - and it even has several amino acids in it! Guest guest
Almods and thus almond butter has protein and of course fat. Almonds are supposed to have calcium too, probably not as much as some kinds of seaweed, but lots compared to other nuts I guess. Guest guest
The deglycerized (spelling?) licorice will provide some plant estrogens too, FYI. Guest guest
Almond milk is good too. You can make yummy shakes with almond milk and frozen banana. Personally I find the taste a bit more appetizing than seaweed. (Not to discount the value of seaweed) Jeanie > From: " aikya " <aikya@...> > > Almods and thus almond butter has protein and of course fat. Guest guest
Yes - and its excellent for healing stomach ulcers which O's sometimes suffer with. Also a good blood sugar stabilizer - or is that only the regular licorice root? Jeanie > From: " aikya " <aikya@...> > > The deglycerized (spelling?) licorice will provide some plant estrogens too, > FYI. > > Aikya > > Re: meat, flax, coffee, success > > > > From: Runtshell@... > > > > I've also found Soy Nut Butter in my health food store. Guest guest
Hi, Rochelle. We aren't too far from each other. I am in the Chicago area and we had a hard frost last night. Feels like fall to me! Carol Re: meat, flax, coffee, success From: Runtshell@... Carol, Where in the Midwest are you? I am in KCMO Rochelle
Guest guest
Hi, Jeanie. Yes, this area can be exciting, there is a lot to offer here, but weather is not one of them! I was born and raised here, but I don't like all the traffic and congestion. I would like to live in a small town -- well, in fact I do live in a suburb but the suburbs are almost as bad the city, so it's suburban sprawl. Unfortunately, I have a good job here and so -- what are you going to do? Some day, maybe, hubbie and I can move to a small town, just walk to the store and live in a more natural way. Sounds good to me! Carol Re: meat, flax, coffee, success > > From: " jverner " <jverner@...> > > Thank you Carol - I seem to crave salmon sometimes. Interesting. Where in > the midwest are you from? Guest guest
Hi! You know, the bottoms of my feet were burning a couple of weeks ago, and I was trying to explain it to my husband. I told him it felt like a chemical burn! Could that be from eating corn? I washed them with soap and water and rubbed lotion on, and they felt better. carol Re: meat, flax, coffee, success From: " aikya " <aikya@...> Hi When I eat corn or some corn product slips by me (corn syrup EVERYWHERE, maltodextrin hiding in every crevice!!!), my feet and ankles swell and the bottom of my feet burn. If I didn't realize I ate a corn something or other, my ouchy feet will get me reviewing what went in my mouth. Sure enough, something will have corn. Maltodextrin is the one that puts me into a temper. I found it in the cranberry extract I was taking to help my kidneys along. Mean! I am suffering now too, as the low is just coming in. However as it becomes more regular (in the winter) it is easier to deal with. I find the first month to 6 weeks of coming winter very painful. But I would rather have the cold most days than the 95' heat or high humidity. That just sucks the energy out of me. Dress warm, especially your hands and feet. And eat spicy foods if you enjoy them and can tolerate them. This O has a cast iron stomach, except for coffee which I never liked much until latte's and cappchino became the fad. So it was not hard to give up for me. But peppers, curry and ginger help me and seem to make the pain easier. Of course I do not necessarily recommend them all in the same dish.......or maybe. Hummm, I will let you know. LOL Pam
