I homeschooled 2 of my children at different times, but not my child with DS, although we did lots of work during the summer etc... M. As a general rule, if your fusion/hardware is solid, an MRI won't "pull" anything out of place. They do generally warn you that the rods may feel warm/hot, but I personally have never had this happen. I've also never had them be able to actually correctly read my MRI because of the artifacts caused by the metal. With CTs, there is no risk of the metal heating or pulling, however, you can still have significant artifacts, making it very difficult or impossible to read them. I just ran into this problem last month with a CT myelogram. Rule of thumb: the closer you get to the metal in either case, the less reliable the films will be. So if you only had rods in the lumbar spine, an MRI of the middle thoracic spine should be readable without any real difficulty. Same thing with a CT.
