Guest guest
Roche holds the patent for Tamiflu so the drug cannot be manufactured legally by anyone else. However, there is great pressure being put on Roche to allow other companies to produce Tamiflu.sterten@... wrote: In einer eMail vom 28.11.2005 05:50:44 Westeuropäische Normalzeit schreibt jackalope_lepus@...: >So Taiwan is playing "I dare you" with Roche. Guest guest
I wouldnt bat an eyelid,if my family needed a life saving drug,i would get it,make it whatever and dont care less about who gets the royalties from the license, human life is more important than profit by Roche.Good luck to Taiwan and any other countries who have the sense to look after themselves. Most countries give individuals the right to self defense and this is a classic case of defending one's self from a virus that may kill us.If it comes to my door i will try to defend my body with tamiflu from this virus. The world should wake up and all countries should make it for everyone, not 10%,25% etc for the select few,i value all life equally and not by their job position.Only God has the right to decide who lives or dies(if there is one) These are my personal beliefs and dont wish to offend anyone by my views. >From: sterten@... >Reply-Flu >Flu >Subject: Re: [Flu] Re: Taiwan to produce bird flu drug without >license from R... >Date: Mon, 28 Nov 2005 01:15:28 EST > > >In einer eMail vom 28.11.2005 06:06:58 Westeuropäische Normalzeit schreibt >jackalope_lepus@...: > > >It is illegal to produce Tamiflu with license from Roche, but Taiwan > >does not care because it thinks no court can punish Taiwan for > >producing Tamiflu illegally > > > >why do they tell us then, that they are producing Tamiflu ? Can't it be done secretely ? I thought Roche gave Taiwan and a few other poorer countries the right to reproduce Tamiflu? (Wasn't India also given permission?) Guest guest
Hi Connie, Hope you are well today. If you will click up to the original post, you will see that Taiwan has decided to produce Tamiflu without a license from Roche because Roche has denied Taiwan a license to produce it. Instead, Roche has told Taiwan that it can get all the Tamiflu it needs directly from Roche. Taiwan is clearly angry. > I thought Roche gave Taiwan and a few other poorer countries the right > to reproduce Tamiflu? (Wasn't India also given permission?) Hi Lee, after I posted this message I did scroll back and discovered some articles from late October 2005 that confirm what you just said. I must have totally overlooked this fact. Pretty interesting, huh, how Roche wants to maintain a monopoly on its patents? And with the news today that Merck will shut down over 7000 jobs, half in the US ANd the loss of some of its drug patents next year for its cholesterol-lowering formula...that can only spell bad news for Pharmaceuticals OVERALL in this potential pandemic. We may just see a downfall of the gargantuan pharmaceuticals world-wide.

Guest guest
I think Taiwan is trying to help negotiations by saying that it will produce Tamiflu without license. > I thought Roche gave Taiwan and a few other poorer countries the right > to reproduce Tamiflu?
