Guest guest
Strong likelihood of pandemic flu outbreak, Md. legislators told By JOE GIDJUNIS, The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times Posted Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 12:56 pm ANNAPOLIS — Veterinary and health officials testified before legislators today that a strong likelihood of a pandemic flu outbreak exists in land. The most likely strain of this pandemic outbreak is avian flu. At the same time, the officials admit that while current risk of the outbreak is low, if it were to occur today, the necessary amount of antiviral medication wouldn't become available until 2008. Grant funding has been made available to monitor travel patterns of migratory birds, the most likely source of an outbreak identified by the officials. The poultry industry has been monitoring 100 percent of their flocks for the past year, an effort described as a great success. http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061212/NEWS/61212027
