WHO Confirms Six Indonesian Bird Flu Deaths; Total Reaches 30

May 17 (Bloomberg) -- The World Health Organization confirmed six

Indonesians, including five who died this month, were infected with

H5N1 bird flu.

The deaths bring the total number of human H5N1 fatalities in Indonesia

to 30, among 39 confirmed infections, WHO spokeswoman Sari said in a

telephone interview today.

Five of the fatalities came from one family group in North Sumatra

province that attended a family reunion feast. A 38- year-old woman

from East Java, who died on May 12, was also confirmed to have had the

virus.
