According to my Cook's Handbook, 1 Imperial Tbs equals 1 1/2 American Tbs.

However teaspoons are the same.

You know the Weights and measures section doesn't say specifically. But if

1 American Tbs equals 3 teaspoons, then 1 imperial Tbs would be 4.5 teaspoons.

However in closer reading my book says this:

" Note: ....the equivalents given below are not strictly accurate, but are

rounded-up or down for convenience.

In American recipe books, when dry measres are given in spoonfuls, level

spoonfuls are meant. British recipes call for " heaped " or " rounded "

spoonfuls unless otherwise stated. This means, effectively, that for dry

measures 2 US tablespoons are equal to one British tablespoonful. "
