A great starting place would be a scientifically-oriented company like RJR- Nabisco. They have a huge resevoir of scientific peer-reviewed articles that prove just how healthy smoking tobacco is for the ordinary human. Another place to examine might be the Monsanto database where they prove, quite conclusivily I imagine, that toxic chemical agricultural sprays actually enhance human health. Or, you may want to get in touch with Mcs as I understand they have many, many scientific papers (peer-reveiwed of course) that prove their fast food is the key to strong bodies, long life, and superb health. I would stay away from sources like the Journal of the American Medical Association as I understand the editors took a survey several years ago wherein 40% of the scientists submitting papers admitted they took gratuities from the makers of whatever drug they were reporting on. There are certainly many more sources of " scientific " studies than I have mentioned. I understand a fairly good summary is given in a recent book, " Toxic Sludge Is Good For You. As you may have surmised, I don't trust " scientific " papers. There is too much chicanery in the field. Just think back to the 40 year campaign to malign butter and BS us into buying all those crappy butter imitations. There must have been hundreds, if not thousands, of " scientific " papers proving that we should eat such junk. " Scientific " research is a nest of liars. Stay with people like Professor Albrecht and you'll have a chance at finding truth. Regards, Rex Harrill
Guest guest
If anyone wants a real giggle they can go to and subscribe to the Quackbusters email list. Of the six or so who post regularly there is not an original thought among them. If it hasn't been " proven " in an " evidence based " study and published in a peer-reviewed journal and PubMed it doesn't exist. If anyone is silly enough to join this bunch let me know and I'll re-sub and help you harass them. Not one of them can take an over-all look at the picture and make a decision of their own. When I posted links to well referenced articles they screamed and yelled because " I " did not post references. I just told them that, in case they hadn't noticed, the article was well referenced and there was no need for me to recreate the wheel. I would get them going by telling them that my studies were what I saw around me in everyday life. Especially the low-fat diet. I have had to sit by helplessly and watch friends and family members fade away and die after their doctors " laid down the law " and told them to go on the " healthy " diet or else! Enjoy! ;-) Judith Alta -----Original Message----- On Thu, 13 Feb 2003 20:22:58 EST, <ChrisMasterjohn@...> wrote: > For those who regularly keep up with research, > Where is a good place to look for scientific studies on nutrition? Guest guest
Rex, Funny :0) But, nutrition isn't a religion to me, and I'm not interested in finding the " truth " by " following " a given professor. I understand there is a lot of sludge to wade through in scientific literature, but the alternative following personalities instead of evidence. Dr. Mercola cites JAMA all the time; it seems like a useful reference to me. In any case, thanks to you and Suze for responding. Guest guest
Forgive my sarcasm but why don't you just make up your own like most publications ;-) DMM > For those who regularly keep up with research, > > Where is a good place to look for scientific studies on nutrition? I was " sort of " referring to myself as some have indicated these (lack of analytical rigor and failure to follow the debate) as my personal traits. But I still don't think Mr Bush has proven we need to bomb Iraq. BTW, I'm praying for the queendom(kingdom). Dennis
Guest guest
At great peril I am replying to this one brandon. But since this is a thread of humor I figured I'd risk it. I didn't vote for 'em either, but considering the state of things, it wouldn't be much different if we'd have elected kc and the sunshine band or sloopy (from the song " hang on sloopy " ) or any other modern day politico for that matter. ;-) --- In , Berg <bberg@c...> wrote: > Quoting " aubinparrish <aubinparrish@y...> " <aubinparrish@y...>: > > > Or how about a cure for stupidity and laziness, which seem to > > govern so many lives! > > Don't blame me--I didn't vote for them! > > -- > Berg > bberg@c... I wasn't speaking in a political sense specifically, it wasn't my intention to bring that up, and I wasn't clued in to any disucssion about your above-mentioned " personal traits " ;-) (don't have time to read the whole list). I was just griping because we (my family) seem lately to be surrounded by people who are lazy, stupid, or both, who won't do the jobs they're being paid for, lie about it, and then try to blame it on someone else (are these kind of people attracted in disproportionate numbers to the real estate finance and construction business?). As for politics, I didn't vote for 'em either. In fact, I don't think I voted for anyone that's currently in office, with one exception, but I'm obviously an oddball. Anyway, I don't think this is the place to discuss politics except as it relates to nutrition. Aubin
