Guest guest
10,000 cures. Years ago, Spring 1999, I was out in this very park with Barb, , and Greg. I told them that if we could have a five-digit cure number for any given disease, as a lupus, the disease would " tip over, " and there would be millions of cures within months. And that the tipping could come well before 10, 000, but it wouldn't come much after, because it was impossible for that amount of cures to go unnoticed in the community associated with any given disease. I stand by that. You know what? We don't need immunicsBuddies groups. There are plenty of groups about these diseases out there -- all we need is enough people who've cured any specific disease. A moderator will stop your e-mail from getting through to a lupus group if you write in telling her that you cured lupus, but if a thousand of you write in saying that there's no way a moderator would ever be able to hold back her tears, or reject all thousand of those e-mails. Do you remember that story about Winston Churchill? He was at a boring dinner party, and to liven things up he asked the woman next to him if she would sleep with him for a million dollars. She tittered, and said, " possibly. " He then asked if she would sleep with him for $10. She exclaimed, " absolutely not! What you think I am? " " We've already established that -- now we're just bickering over price. " There's a magic number for everything. Yes, we live in a suppressive world. Nutcases who won't let the Cure through moderate Lupus groups. They're killing everybody in the group. And there's all kinds of other goofy stuff like that going on. But with enough of us, that will change. At some point, there'll just be too many of us. Are our 10,000 cures that point? I don't know. Maybe they still won't listen, but I now feel a lot less like them not listening is my fault. I feel more empowered to be my own flawed self, inadequate in my speech and expression but nevertheless telling a truth that is critical for humanity right now. Thanks for the cures. Thanks for the empowerment. Thanks for making my life, and my mission easier. I really do appreciate you for that. When we crossed 10,000, something happened for me. And 20,000.
