Guest guest
Troy- From my extensive reading on gallstones: blockage of the duct leading from the pancreas is considered among the most serious complications that can result from gallstones. I believe it is considered life-threatening, since it can quickly cause irreparable damage to the pancreas and is usually extremely painful. If you had such a blockage I think you would be in very serious trouble (not just suffering from bloating, etc.). ....Bill On 1/10/01 4:28 AM, hulltroy@... wrote: >so are gallstones blocking the >entrance of digestive enzymes into the small >intestine? and what if a stone got pushed down the >common bile duct, then backlodged into the pancreatic >duct? will more flushes fix the problem eventually? Guest guest
Has anybody recieved positive laboratory identification of their cholesterol stones? Does anybody know of any sites on the web other than our egroup sites that have pictures of cholesterol gallstones? Thanks... Guest guest
Obtaining that kind of information is worst than pulling teeth. I've taken stones in for diagnostic pathology but have only received an answer that it was fecal matter when I know it wasn't "just" fecal matter. It isn't green. There has, in the past on this group, been one that did get done with a report that it was just a waxy substance. That was probably the closest thing to being told it was cholesterol that I've read here, since that's just what cholesterol is, a waxy like substance. There is one person that writes here who's relative is a retired pathologist that has seen my own stones photo and noted that they were in fact just common gallstones. Getting an honest report that what you've passed were in fact gallstones is next to impossible from the medical community. The reason? It may cause some fear that they'll lose prospects. Guest guest
Hi Troy! Your theory of a blocked pancreas is certainly possible... not probable. Pancreatic distress or an attack is even worse than a gb attack. BUT... it the liver and gb and pancreas are ver interrelated organs. It is possible that a poorly functioning liver has hurt your pancreatic production. IF you pancreatic problem is real... it seems it would be most likely low production due to past blockages more than a current blockage problem. Do you take a digestive enzyme with your meals? I find that I have reduced my bloated feelings by immediately taking two types of enzyme tablets. I believe one delivers more HCL and the other gives me pancreatic type enzymes. I usually only take them at my evening meal (it is my largest of the day, even though it shouldn't be!) I sleep much better as I don't feel bloated!) Enzyme #1: Z-88 (Formally Digestzyme, Glandular Fruit Extract Formula. (By 21st Century) http://www.dews21.com/digestion.cfm.htlm Contains bromelain, papain, pectin, betaine HCL, pepsin, pancreas peptones and ox bile. Enzyme #2: Zypan (By Standard Process) Contains: Betaine HCL, pancreas Cytosol extract, pancreatin (3x), fatty acid, pepsin (1:10,000), ammonium chloride, bovine spleen and ovine spleen. I know these ingredients sound delicious, but they are small tablets that have reduced my " bloating " significantly. 21st Century has a product that is specifically for low pancreatic production called Panteric EXTRA. They write: These are the enzymes which Dr. Kelley recommended for his patients back in the 1970's. Many have said, " I tried many types of pancreatic enzymes, but yours are the best. " These are made from uncut, raw pancreatin. They are processed at almost room temperature. These are about ten times as potent as regular enzymes. Good for digesting proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The Panteric EXTRA TM is double potency. I believe that many of us who have had significant digestive problems in the past suffer from low enzyme output. Also, as you age, supplementation of enzymes is quite helpful to digestion. I suggest you test enzyme supplementation at each meal to see if it helps! ken
Guest guest
I take digestive enzymes (when I remember) to help digest meat and vegetables (I seem okay on breads and grains and fruits, except for apples). When I take them I'm fine. They're expensive but they always work. I ought to just remember to take them more often. Guest guest
, that Zypan is only 11.00. I take one with each meal. Depends, I guess, on how big of a meal one eats. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Bramer " <kjbramer@...> <gallstonesegroups> Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2001 2:21 PM Subject: Re: Re: stones blocking pancreas? > I take digestive enzymes (when I remember) to help digest meat and > vegetables (I seem okay on breads and grains and fruits, except for > apples). Guest guest
Ken In a book I have " Smart Medicine for Healthier Living " here is a warningof the dangers of long term supplementation with pancreatin, as it can cause your pancreas to reduce its own production of this enzyme. They suggest you try discontinuing them after 2 months and see if the symptoms recur. My holistic doctor says he never advises his patients to stay on supplements like this for long because of this reason. Guest guest
I get mine at Whole Foods. It's called Digestion Formula -- $17 from Vitase (90 capsules). robert mcmullan wrote: > > , that Zypan is only 11.00. I take one with each meal.
