, I think you are absolutely right. It does require self-discipline.

Discipline is NOT a bad word. It just means teaching. We associate it with

punishment, because of bad associations in our past. It is necessary to

discipline ourselves all the time to do even the things we enjoy doing, because

it we all have a tendency to be lazy.

Even when we feel devotion to God, we forget to pray. Even when we enjoy

physical activity, we sometimes don't want to do it. I think beyond self

discipline lies the idea of commitment. If you are committed to something

nothing can stop you. Commitment has a partner - determination. That is what

gets the musician into the practice room day after day, what leads the athlete

to train faithfully, the meditator to practice every day, the successful student

to study, the good driver to obey the law even when it is inconvenient, or the

smoker to kick the habit.

Sometimes we just have trouble getting ourselves to do what we deeply want to

do, and the missing factors are discipline, commitment, and determination.

Without the willingness to practice these things, no one ever even approaches

his/ her potential. These are what allow one to conquer addictions, cure cancer,

learn to play the violin, play shortstop with the grace and precision of a

ballet dancer, become a successful business person, or get elected to office. GO

DISCIPLINE!!!!!!!!!

Love,

Meredith
