My husband was diagnosed with hep-c in August of 99. He has cirrhosis too and

may be put on transplant list after all the tests are done. He cannot be

treated with the drug program. There are many here who can help you better

than I for I am here for support and to learn as you, about all I can. I am

sorry you are here but this is a great place to learn. Irish

Hi Carole Lynn,

Even though I am sorry that you need to be here I want

to welcome you to the group. I'm sorry to hear about

your mom. My husband was diagnosed 4 years ago and

has been through the interferon treatments and the

combo treatments, but did not respond. He is not on

the transplant waiting list, where he has been for 14

months.

Several of the current members are going through the

treatments right now so I will let you get the current

information from them.

Welcome.

Welcome to you and your mother, Carol Lynne. This is a very informed and

caring group of people. I'm sure you will find the information you are

looking for. My 50-yr old husband was diagnosed 4 years ago. He has some

cirrhosis, but not at the stage where he is a candidate for a transplant. He

takes 210 mg of Milk Thistle daily (you can order it from places like Vitamin

World or any health food store). He decided against the interferon/ribovarin

treatments when offered when he was first diagnosed because the side effects

can be difficult and the results were not that promising. His doctor said he

is receiving information about some progress that is being made with

treatment that can even reverse liver damage. Once my husband gets through a

back operation that is scheduled for 6/2, he plans to pursue this. How is

your mother feeling? Tree

Good morning, Merrill, and happy Mother's Day if you're a mother.

I'm feeling a mixture of relief and anxiety about the surgery, which I

suppose is normal. Hearing the situations of some of our friends on this

list, I feel so thankful that I have a " family friendly " workplace and can

take off as long as I need to.

I just hope this surgeon didn't get D's in med school! That sheepskin on

the wall doesn't tell you " this one just made it through by the seat of his

pants! " Tree

(by the way, you wondered where we live--Burkittsville, land)

Tree...

Glad the back surgery is scheduled. My thoughts will be with you...

I am planning to go to Cleveland from May 31 - June 3. I can't remember

where you live..... do you mind telling me??

Have a really great Sunday....

Hi Carole Lynn -

My husband was diagnosed in January, about 4 weeks after the birth of our

second daughter. Sorry to hear about your mom, but you have found a group

of wonderful and caring people to share the journey with.

Merril mentioned great web sites. Another one I found helpful is

http://home.texoma.net/~moreland/index.html.

You might want to grab a copy of Living With Hepatitis C: A Survivor's

Guide by Everson and/or The Hepatitis C handbook by Dolan.

The Everson book includes a lot of personal anecdotes from people with

hepC. The Dolan book gives a lot of info about alternative treatments

(which can sometimes be more confusing than helpful). Warning - both start

out with a lot of clinical info about the disease that will leave you

really depressed if you aren't already.

My husband's taking milk thistle and upping his anti-oxidants, in his 3rd

week taking the combo (interferon & ribivirin). No alcohol is about all we

can get his GI to say about diet, although you may want to look into Dr.

Cabot's stuff on nutrition and the liver --her web site is

http://www.liverdoctor.com/.

Hope some of this helps! Hang in there, both of you.

Belinda
