Guest guest
Hi Narendra feels that the topic should be of guide's choice. Well I beg to differ on this. Those guides who are not sci updated, are a flop in guiding the new generation of researchers. Experience does matter but experience alone is not all. With the info explosion and rapid progress in sci field, the young rsearchers will do well to shape their careers well with newer topics rather than re-searching what has been already researched. If the foundation is not laid well then a high rise can not be erected later on it! Yes, the topic for the PG should be from the area of specialisation of the guide because that way the student will gain the insights in the work already done and further the research. I srongly feel that like for PhD scholars, the medical PGs should have the power of choosing the guide rather than the PG being alloted randomly by the HOD to the faculty of the department. If the reserach students weild and exercise the power to select the guide than naturally because of the process of seletion, the mediocre, substandard, below par, non-acedemic bufoons will be out of research. It makes sense to check the mediocracy in the research.
