Guest guest
Gretchen & All: What a beautiful inspiration. Thanks for sharing. My name is from the land of the Illini. I have been reading the posted messages for a while and feel that I would like to share with you some of my experiences with CMT. I think I might qualify as one of the " oldies. " I am approaching my 75 th birthday with a speedy rate. CMT began showing that it was living with me about seventy years ago. I remember my feet being hyper-arched and that I made a footprint very different from any of my friends. The heel and very front were the only part that was visible, and that I was beginning to walk with a " rolly-polly " gait. My father asked if my shoes hurt my feet and my mother whom I got CMT from quickly changed the subject. In those days, the CMT diagnosis had not yet reached out into the rural country where we lived; nor was it discussed. I just want also to wish each person a good New Year, free of pain, Illness and unhappiness. My fondnest wish is that I will be able to live long enough to see substantial progress in treatment of CMT & related problems. If I haven't offended anyone, and certainly this is not my intention, I will share more with you, such a worthwhile audience. Keep the line open, and may God bless, in the land of the Illini
Guest guest
Hello Friends - from another oldee, I am 66 years old and my mother just passed away at age 92. She had CMT and lived alone until she was 89. Then she realized she needed more help then she was getting. She didn't know the name of what was wrong with her until I got diagnosed 20 years ago. I had problems all my life, but got worse when I was about 50 years. Now my hands are getting troublesome. I wear hand spints at night, alternating right and left. I hope this will prevent the " clawing " that Mom had. Some days I feel a lot better than other days. Wish I knew why and could stick with the good days. I also wear AFOs. They are a godsend. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy 2004. Joan
Guest guest
when I was 14 we went to Florida to visit relatives. There were whispers about one of my great aunts., She drank. I noticed her funny gait and clawed hands . one of the relatives said I had this aunts walk. Little did I know years later it would come to light that we had CMT. My great aunt was very poor and her hubby made wine for her to drink to ease the pain. now we know to much alcohol makes this worse. I am so great full for the reasearch we have today. I have a worse case of CMT than any of my relatives but I have a strong will and I am still mobile. I wish my great aunt could see and hear about the new ways the docotrs can help CMT patients. I love this group because it gives me so much hope and I enjoy reading about others with CMT and how they handle daily life. I like your story you are truly an inspiration to all of us. Guest guest
Cathleen, I can relate to your aunt's drinking to ease the pain. I am just grateful I stopped in time. ~ Gretchen Ramblinrose83@... wrote: > when I was 14 we went to Florida to visit relatives. There were whispers > about one of my great aunts., She drank.
