Guest guest
Global Zero: Nuclear Disarmament Initiatives K S VENKATARAMAN The arms race among the countries thus perpetuates the conflicts in various parts of the world. This diverts the resources to be used for peace and prosperity towards arms production. Once in the possession of nuclear arms these countries live in wide-spread fear and distrust. They have to live with strong suspicion of other parties who might opt for attacking first. This is so because, in the nuclear context the country that starts the attack first could cause irreparable damages to the other country. But experts agree that once such a full-fledged nuclear war begins, all the countries including those non-participating ones would be destroyed. The humankind, if at all survives, will have to begin with Paleolithic age! Do you know there are over 23,000 nuclear weapons in nine countries around the world? Many of them are programmed to launch in minutes! A nuclear conflict-or accident-could cause millions to die in a flash and create an environmental catastrophe that would last for generations. I just watched an amazing interactive online video about the nuclear threat that makes the case for the elimination of all nuclear weapons worldwide, or "global zero." I think you should watch it too! Click on the link below, it takes less than three minutes: Terrorists have been trying to buy, build, or steal nuclear weapons, and in the last two decades there have been at least 25 instances of nuclear explosive materials being lost or stolen. The only way to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and make sure they are never used is to get rid of them. With Presidents Obama's and Medvedev's recent commitment to this goal (their countries have 96% of the word's nuclear weapons) we have a real opportunity to do it. Please take a look at the Global Zero interactive map and use it to get the word out to your own friends and family: It is perhaps for the first time since the danger of nuclear weapons became a reality in this world, that powerful and sincere leadership has emerged to save the world from this grave danger. The leadership from Presidents Obama and Medvedev; and growing support from governments around the world — there cannot be a better opportunity than this to bring about total avoidance of the threat of nuclear weapons. Let us be with them in word and spirit; and help them to make a peaceful world a real thing for us and for our children and their children. Please consider this request, follow this link, learn more and commit yourself by signing the declaration for bringing down nuclear weapons in this world to zero. http://www.globalzero.org/map Thanks!
