Guest guest
I heard from UofM today by mail on the scooter. Their price is over $2,000 higher than the company I found on the web. Even if my insurance covers 30% of the cost, it will be cheaper for me to buy my own, and let MDA reimburse me the $2,000 cap. If any one out there is looking for one, American made, so if you ever need parts, they would be readily available. Call Edmond Wheelchair Repair & Supply Co. 1-888-343-2969. They are in Oklahoma and will ship directly to your home in about 10 days. No charge for that. And talk to , What a sweetheart she is. Guest guest
I don't use the scooter that runs on the street because I too would be dangerous in one. I used the electric cart that was in the grocery store. I called it a scooter. I tried for over two years to get a power chair or scooter from the insurance companies I had at the time. I kept getting the run around from either the doctor's office or the insurance company. I got very, very, lucky and received a call from a power chair company telling me about a man who was donating his old power chair. I now have wheels. It is so nice. I am so thankful. The man who donated his old power chair was a trial lawyer for 30 years. He was planning on retiring when he started getting symptoms. He was dx with Lou Gehrigs/Als disease. He is still able to enjoy food at this point. He said that most people who have had ALS at his stage is not able to enjoy food and must be tube feed. I am so thankful I am just dealing with lyme disease. He does not have use of his hands or arms at this time and his helper holds his tea with a straw in it for him to drink. He has a new power chair that has a reclining seat and a leg rest. So, he can be in his chair all day as long as he changes positions throughout the day. I, too, have difficulty sitting up for very long and would benefit from a reclining power chair with a leg rest. But, my hope is that this will improve and will not need a power chair at all. I tried to purchase some epsom salts at the store yesterday and am still trying to recover from that. It took me 10 min to get to the store. I then laid down at a near by coffee shop and then got back in the power chair and wheeled on home. I have to wait until I have those windows of opportunity to get out and about. If I try to over ride things like I did yesterday, I am down for a long time.
