Guest guest
Hi, my name is Jeannie and I was told in 2000 that I probably have CMT. But...I took the DNA test done at Athena Lab and it came up negative. But, the doctor is pretty sure from my symptoms I have a form of CMT that they just do not have a test for. She prescribed AFOs with a hinge/spring at the ankle to help me walk better as I have terrible foot drop. I also have severe flat feet with bunions and crooked toes. My little toe on both feet have just a nub for a nail and are turned under the other toes. As a baby I wore corrective braces (straight laced shoes with a bar between the shoes) and corrective high top shoes until I was 6 years old. Until I got my AFOs in 2000 I walked on my toes completely with my heel never touching the floors. I wore out pretty fact and suffered from cramps in my feet all the time, especially during the winter. The only problem I have right now is finding shoes to fit. All the shoes I have found so far are too narrow in the toe area. Does anyone know where I can find reasonally priced shoes that will fit? BTW: I live in Texas. Also, I am adopted and my records are sealed. I do know that I have older siblings but I don't know their names or if they too suffer from CMT. I look forward to hearing from others with CMT.
