Guest guest
lol, omg, ha ha ha- I live in place where people still use all those words in section c (except medical professionals) It's not they they are mean on purpose, it is just that no oneknows any better. If in conversation you describe someone as differently abled or challenged, you get a puzzled expression. If you call them a cripple or retard, then they know what you are talking about. Guest guest
Gretchen- While I understand your " unease " at hearing descriptors that you find offensive, I think it's unproductive to dictate how people should describe themselves. This site is for everyone with CMT, not just people who have the same outlook as you. And the key here is, they are describing themselves- no one is calling you these names or telling you that you walk funny. We're all just trying to explain our experiences. Some of us are more straight forward, and some of us take the time to look up impressive words in the Thesaurus. In the end, it doesn't really matter. If I tell you that I have an " unusual high-stepping gait " or that I " walk funny " , you get the picture either way. I just want everyone to feel like they can contribute to a topic without fearing that they will be scolded for using " inappropriate " terms or for having a different/controversial view. Thanks for listening, heather
Guest guest
, The information I provided was for 1) for educational purposes and 2) because that is based on which I live my CMT life. This was not a dictate. But in my life experience with CMT, negativity has no place in my life anymore. And I believe my overall health is a result of a change in my attitude, as well as the language I use. Dignity as a woman with CMT is the greatest gift for me. ~ G
