Guest guest
Hello, I have type 1A. Does anyone know if the type of CMT one has is the only type that is passed on to our children, or does it vary from each person? Take Care. Guest guest
Hi April- In regards to your question about what type is passed on; my neurologist told me that whatever type of CMT I have would be the same for my daughter and son. Meanwhile I have no idea what type I do have and I'm 51! Barb fl.
Guest guest
April, CMT dosen't morph into other CMTs. So if you have 1A that will be what your children may have.
Guest guest
April, If 1A is what you have, then 1A is what can be passed on. Sometimes it is passed on, sometimes not. But remember even within one specific type of CMT, symptoms and degrees of severity can be different. Also remember your distinct genetic pattern/heredity issue as well as the fact that 20% of CMT 1A has been discovered to show no family history. And 1 other thing, those of us here for awhile have also seen that CMT genes are jumping chromosomes. I would suggest a genetic counselor can help you more with this. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Gretchen and all those who responded to my question of whether or not our children inherit the type of CMT the parent carries or can they inherit other types? I want to thank all of you for your responses. I have been to Genetic Counseling several times, and did not get an answer to this, and was so surprise to hear that 20% of those with CMT 1A have seen no other prior family history, because I seem to be the only one, and everyone keeps checking out their feet lol. I am so glad I belong to this group, I need the support and information. Take care April
