Dear all

yesterday i could spend 10 minutes talking to mr.Prashant, counter

manager of a pharmacy at Siricilla, a sleepy rural town of

karimnagar dist AP.

1. number of TB patients served by him are around 30.patients

usually buy 2-5 days medicines. he doent know what is DOTS.The

patients do not know these medicines are given free of cost by

government. He agreed to my suggestion and implement it-asking

patients to go for a free HIV test at govt hospital,Monitor

improvement of weight.

2. i asked him if he can refer pregnant patients for safer delivery

to a PHC and get govt incentive of Rs200.he said he can recommend

patients but they lost trust and confidence in govt doctors and

hospitals.he said patients are selling their little property or take

loans but prefer going to private sector provider.

3.Only kama sutra brand of condoms moves in this town. people have

purchased the emergency contraceptive pill of Cipla.

4. mr prashant said he can distribute health awareness literature to

his patients if provided by us.

the challenge before us to day how to engage srevices of

commercially oreinted Doctors and chemists to improve health out

comes.
