Guest guest
It is my husband who has Hep-c and various other problems now too. I dont think anyone can have enough information in regards to this disease. I for one at first was overwhelmed by it all. But today when I went in the Dr.'s office with my husband and started asking the questions I have learned to ask from readings like these I felt like I really knew what I was talking about. Even better the DR. said that I knew a lot and to keep on reading. Not everything out there is going to happen to everyone we are all different. It is good to know that there are different side effects for all of us. Then the Dr.'s will be able to learn more about it. My Husband will not be able to take the drug treatment offered now. Cirrhosis is to bad. Plus enlarged spleen and portal hypertension, hypertension, chronic fatigue, ascities. So we will not be able to do anything but get monitored and blood work. So each one is different and each one has something to offer another. I am thank ful for these groups. I am also thankful that I can find out so much on this computer. hope to learn more and God Bless you all. Irish
Guest guest
... Thanks for the long post about your sister. I find stories like that very helpful when I am trying to decide what to do about things. I am glad that you were willing to put it all down for us. I sure wish that I had a little sis like you. You said: " But honestly, Merril, haven't you noticed that the people in the group and information you get here is more up-to-date than what the doctors know? What could be scarier than the thought of managing HCV based on information found in published books? " Absolutely. It is true here and in my mitochondrial disorder group. It is amazing how well-informed and up-to-date someone can be when it is their body that is affected. The texts are too generic and too careful. I was given two booklets to read on the combo therapy and have searched out info but the best info is coming from people who have tried it and lived it. I am not saying that the docs are " bad " or " useless " , but I am saying that for the most part they haven't walked even one mile in our shoes.... Guest guest
Jeanie, thank you for the welcome. I was on this list before under a different name before my comp crashed. Use to be Paddyp5. Got a bad virus and it wiped me out. So had to re=do the whole computer took days to get back what I could and restart all my lists. Hope you and Hubby are OK and had a good St. Paddy's day. Guest guest
Jeanie: My heart goes out to Pat--and to you too. I am the spouse also, and it's so frustrating not to be able to help. My husband sleeps most of the time too, and his back is killing him from being in bed so much. In fact, he has to have surgery on it since none of the other quick fixes have worked. Good luck next week at the doctor. Tree
Guest guest
Well then welcome back Irish. St. Paddy's Day was a non-event here this year. In year's past it used to be Pat's " feast day " , but needless to say he has had no " spirits " in a very long time. Pat isn't doing very well, but as well as we can hope for right now. He has developed some ascites and is pretty uncomfortable right now. He is also dealing with encephalopathy, which is driving him crazy. He takes lactulose on a daily basis (1-2 tbsp. 2-3 times a day), but it doesn't always help as much as we sould like. He is sleeping more now than ever before, and having trouble staying awake and focused when he's not asleep. He has a dr. appt. next Wednesday so we will see what he has to say. Guest guest
Thanks Tree. Sometimes I think it's just as hard on we spouses - just in a different way. Guest guest
I too think it is hard on the ones who have this damn disease. But as stated before it is so hard on the ones around them to try and keep a stiff upper lip so to speak. There are days when I want to hold him and other days when I want to scream at him. The kids are doing fair with this. Now that we know that the drug therapy will not be for him, we are wondering what will happen next month when we go again? I am still looking for all I can find and as for the depression it is part of this disease and for some a very scary part. There doesn't have to be a history of depression. Any major illness has the side effects of depression. the problem with this one is most of the meds for depression aren't good for the liver, so what does one do then? Bill starts therapy for the depression in 2 weeks so we will see what happens then. Hope you all have a better day tomorrow, Take Care, Irish
Guest guest
Irish: My husband takes Prozac and it works for him (and is apparently fairly liver friendly). Maybe we need a little too! Tree
