Guest guest
Welcome . First, a couple of links for you about my story. http://www.msnbc.com/local/ksby/M307763.asp http://www.hereditaryneuropathy.org/stories.html#glick_g I suppose I was born with a sense of self confidence, but I learned so much more about acceptance in a 12 step program and that really super-sized my self-confidence. Yes, I ran from CMT too, right into alcohol - not a good idea for me - but seemed like it at the time. Am so grateful I don't have to run from CMT OR anything now:) I enjoy meeting each day head on, alert and eager. My 12 step program taught me so much about the general emotional 'side' off life and I just adapted what I learned there into my CMT. Especially with 'attitude'! The tendon surgery I had DID help my gait - looking back on it now. For years I wasn't sure. But now, at 51, I think I can be so active is because I'm on my feet and 'into' life with a few 'adjustments' like orthotics inside my shoes and medication for tremors. Self-confidence DOES come from within, but also it comes from helping others. Is there some volunteer work you can do in an area you like (i.e., the Humane Society, or being a Big Sister, etc.) Whatever. Not only will this boost confidence, but you will meet others who have similiar interests. I have never let CMT stop me from doing anything I wanted. Like I said, just made a few adjustments. I was diagnosed early as a kid. I thought that by this time in my life CMT would have overtaken me and I'd be a vegetable. I'm happy to say this negative thinking never happened; instead I grew into a better person and learned how to manage CMT. In regards to relationships, just go out and have a good time. Try forgetting about the CMT dreariness. That's what I did. Started having tons of fun and still am. (Just made plans for a trip to Costeau's Island in Fiji!) As for Chats, as a member you can use ours, there is also one for CMT at brainchat.org As for Singles with CMT, I think there is still a group for that. Now, take a look at our awareness page and again, welcome to !
