Rob,

Definitely try New Balance shoes. All sizes and shapes. I wear 'em and

have for awhile. Try this place - they will send you a catalog.

As for the ankle thing - the way my in-shoe orthotics are made, together

with the design of the particular New Balance Shoe, no ankle roll can

happen. These in-shoe orthotics are not AFOs, nor are they purchased off

the shelf at a store. They are custom made for my feet, and can go in my

other shoes as well. But with the Stability Web, and rollbar and rest of

the New Balance technology, plus my orthotics, my feet really feel like

they strike the ground right.

This also corrects my toe walking - no drop foot here - just a toe

walker by nature. Even when I have my shoes off, they have gotten my

heel used to striking the ground first, unless I am very tired - then

the toe walking will show up.

As a kid I rolled my shoes. In on the right and out on the left. Tendon

surgery corrected that. A blessing.

Perhaps your orthopedic surgeon had in mind orthotics, but these can

only be made by a certified pedorthist. It did feel a bit wierd at first

wearing them - sure the strike of my foot was completely changed, but I

accompanied a friend to the L.A. airport and walked long distance the

second day and was thrilled. Happy feet with a better gait because of

the orthotics. I wore shoes for awhile too, but discovered New

Balance technology was totally different and learned what 'straight

last' means and why it is important.
