A person can have CMT and still have other illnesses/or conditions, yes; like I have CMT and I had Rheumatic Fever. The RF was not caused by the CMT nor part of it. As too whether or not CMT CAUSES other illnesses directly has not been established, but we do know that in some cases besides feet, legs, arms, hands, etc., that the phrenic nerve can be affected. Yes, perhaps a diagnosis of CMT will help narrow down your symptoms, although remember, there are so many types, and so many of us are affected differently. You might also want to look into CIDP (Chronic Imflamatory Demyleinating Polyneuropathy) as well. And then there is HNPP (Hereditary Neuropathy with Liabilities to Pressure Palsies) which is the genetic opposite of CMT. See http://hnpp.org for more info on that. It is a shame you have to wait until January 4 to see a doctor. I don't have that kind of patience!
