I regret to inform you that we have lost a wonderful friend and I a

loving spouse. Kat passed away in her sleep last weekend. Arrangements

are still pending.

I know how much she enjoyed and appreciated knowing you people and

exchanging information about CMT. I also know that she probably got as

much from helping others as many of you afflicted with this and other

forms of peripheral neuropathy got from her counsel and friendship. She

had many international contacts through two CMT groups and also from a

group of seniors on the Internet that she joined in 1996 and I in 1997.

I hope I have her complete lists selected from her computer's address

book. This letter will go to CMT support list owners and some CMTers not

in any specific group. If I goof, this might go to a few " outsiders "

whom Kathleen knew

through other channels.

After this message is sent, I will delete her e-mail addresses and close

her AOL account. I will soon send a large check in her memory to the

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, 2700 Chestnut Street, Chester,

Pennsylvania, 19013, as she and I have discussed on occasion. I will

also ask our other friends and our relatives to donate as they wish to

the CMT organization or any favorite charity in lieu of flowers.

I intend to keep involved with her contacts with Alaska Native people

and carry on part of her work as I am able. I will maintain the " Ice

Window " Website also. Kathleen and I were in the process of donating her

family archives (papers, letters, photos), early postcards from Alaska,

her extensive library related to Northwest Alaska, several paintings

used in " Neeluk, " and a few Iñupiat artifacts to libraries and museums

in Fairbanks, Nome, Anchorage, and Juneau.

Thank you for being in Kat's widened world through the Internet.

Verbeck , Seattle
