Guest guest
Friends, Analgesics are the other commonly used medicines during pregnancy. Aspirin and paracetamol are the ones used very often. While paracetamol is considered safe, there are concerns about using Aspirin. One of these being premature closure of ductus ateriosus. though this has not been consistently reported despite the massive number of exposures. Other problems like IUGR, perinatal death, risk of neonatal hemorrhage have been ascribed to Aspirin. Hence, it is suggested that Aspirin be used in pregnancy only when the benefits outweigh the risks. Low doseAspirin may be safer. Other agents like ibuprofen, ketoprofen and naproxen have been used . Though they are not considered to be teratogenic they may have largely reversible fetal effects when used in the 3rd trimester. Opioids like meperidine, morphine, codeine, propoxyphene, oxycodone, hydrocodone have been used. These have not been associated with congenital anomalies in humans following short term use. However, chronic ingestion may be associated with a neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Regards, Dr. Smita Love Cricket? Check out live scores, photos, video highlights and more. Click here.
