Guest guest
Friends, There is an emerging trend of Anti microbial resistance in our country - Recently macrolide resistance Str.pyogenes and ciprofloxacin resistant Staphylococcus have been reported from different states in India. - A large no. of uropathogens are found to be resistant to expanded spectrum cephalosporins thus limiting treatment option. - Methicillin resistant Staph. aureus and Vancomycin resistant enterococci prevalence rate is increasing gradually. Reason: direct/indirect person to person contact ? - Spread of Penicillin resistance Pneumococci Probably due to overcrowding, frequent tracheostomies and excessive use of penicillin for viral infection - In India 78.4% of Salmonella typhi isolates demonstrated resistance to cholramphenicol , ampicillin, trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole, but they were sensitive to ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone .Gradually reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin is also noticed.. Unfortunately, many clinicians don’t bother to prescribe in accordance to the sensitivity report of microbiology Department. Microbiology Dept. even doesn’t send the sensitivity report to the clinical discipline on a regular basis.( This is our rxperience) Hope, members will also share their experience. Thus, Clinicians need to prescribe antibiotics in collaboration with the local Antibiotic policy or guidelines which should be prepared with active participation of Microbiology Department or Laboratory.
