Hello,

When I visit my podologist this week for making new insoles,

she make a copy with inkt and she saw that my left foot not

corriged with the insole what doing with other people. She

thought is was coming because of a muscle in the ankle, heel is

not working very well. so she say my foot is come down. She is

going to try to corrigesed with putting somthing under the sole.

Is somebody recognised this as a problem with CMT II?

Greetings

Mieke

Mieke,

I think your doctor is giving you something inside

your shoes, like what I have. They are called " in-

shoe orthotics " - no visibility can be seen. They

were originally made from a plaster mold of my feet

and ink drawings; this year when I went in to have

them reconditioned, my feet were 'scanned' and given

to a computer, but also my orthotist Stefan at

Swissbalance.com did a few quick imprints - drawings.

I have these orthotics because I am by nature a toe

walker. Unlike many with CMT I do not have 'drop foot'

so I have no need for AFOs. I also have muscle in my

legs and work at building it up with exercise.

As for your question " is this something others with

CMT have with Type 2 " , I cannot really answer, as I

don't know my Type, although it is neuronal in some

form. There are so many types of CMT and so many different

problems people have. I truly believe my 1 surgery and

these orthotics have helped me greatly. But this might

not work for others. I have always had good doctors who

believe in keeping me on my feet as long as possible and

so far so good.

The CMT genetic patterns make us all different in our

CMT needs; to date there are not actual 'treatments' for

the specific types, like Type 2. With all the research

going on, we will see this in the future.

My sister has inserts for her shoes. They help a lot. They were fitted by

her pediadatrist (spelling wrong but close I hope). Her feet were plastered

for a mold. And the Dr. sent them out to be made. They help keep her foot from

turning out
