My feet do not like the weight of the covers and since they are always so

cold to the touch and seem to hurt more when they are cold I sleep every night

with heavy socks on.Even in the hot summer heat. I know the house is AC but my

feet are almost always very cold to the touch. I used to have to keep shoes on

all of the time for the comfort of my feet feeling closed in for a better

expanantion but now I have reached a new phase and they like to be barefoot. I

do love my AFO's and the feeling they give my feet or I should say the comfort

they give but with this weather of 100 + the heavy socks and AFO's really heat

me up.

Nights are my worst enemy, the covers don't bother me as much,

but as my foot relaxes it aches enough to keep me awake. I

sleep often with my leg bent trying to keep my foot flat,

letting the weight of my leg maintain pressure. Can anyone

tell me more about the foot craddles?

sounds like me. I used to sleep on my back years ago but when

my foot relaxed it turned inward and down and hurt alot. The weight

of a sheet of blanket was almost unbearable. But I learned to sleep

on my side or stomach and it's so much better.

Lately especially my right foot just wants to curl up towards the

inside. Especially when I'm tired. It's doing it really bad now and

it hurts. I can't move it towards the outside at all. It just stays

that way unless I push it into the floor to straighten it out.

My feet like to stetch out when I sleep. The covers don't bother my feet.

however I do have to push them into a walking position before I get out of bed

or else I walk on my tip toes for a while. :-) Cathleen

Hi Gretchen:

When I go to bed I sleep on my right side with my right leg stretched out

under the covers and my left leg is then bent and goes on top of the covers.

For the most part I do not like to have my feet covered.

I take my shoes off as soon as I get home from work, and put a casual

slipper type shoe on. I just bought a nice pair of casual low-cut Rockport

shoes. The sides of the shoes do not cover my ankles, which I like, but they

do provide better support than slippers. So far, so good.

At this time I only need a pair of orthodics for my shoes.

My feet do have a burning sensation, however, if I take my Amitryptiline as

prescribed (50 mg/day), the burning sensation is lessened. My feet just love

to be off the ground without any weight on them, and like you they too like

bedtime.

I'm picky about my feet when I go to sleep. I have always hated the " tucked in "

sheets, like hotel and hospitals have and the first thing I do is pull them out.

I

also like to uncover them, cold feet or not. I sometimes go back and forth all

night covering and uncovering them as they get too hot or too cold. I think that

I need NASA to develop climate controlled socks(like space suits) for me if I

ever expect to really be comfortable!! Alas, I have no AC-but it's probably just

as well: if I had AC, I would probably have it cranked 24/7 and wake up with

frostbite!! LOL (I'm almost always HOT-even if my feet are ice cubes) As for

position... well I used to like sleeping on my back and letting my feet " fall "

into

whatever postion they wanted, but I snore like a bear, and so my wife has me

sleep on my right side most of the time so she can sleep. This way, I have my

legs bent slightly and my feet are kind of spooned together.

I followed the link for G's cradle- that certainly looks uncomfortable!!! I

don't

think that looks like any cradle at all, looks more like a foot rest/ sheet

propper-upper. I envisioned a foam support that wrapped around the foot/

ankle and kept them from flopping around. I saw something like that in an

assistance catalog- but it was expensive and looked too bulky. I do agree that

ankle braces might be the ticket, but my Orthotist says that I should try

wearing

my AFOs at night with a strap to hold my foot in position. Sounds REAL comfy,

huh? Has anyone else tried that??

Since I'm still kinda sorta on topic: Today's the day I get " casted " for AFOs. I

have been looking forward to it.

***begin rant***

The only down side to it is that I had to make an appointment to see my old

Neurologist " Dr Pain in the ... " He of course would love to shock the hell out

of

me again, but I'm planning to tell him to get bent!! I'd like to show him how it

feels!!! I don't know about everybody else, but I really dread the NCV testing,

I

don't think I've ever had EMG, but I know I didn't like the MRI either (put a

trash

can over your head and bang on it with a hammer for a while to get the idea.) I

think that doctors should try all of these wonderful proceedures first, and see

how THEY like it, before they hook up the electrodes... Sadly, that's probably

the only way my insur. will pick up the tab for their share of costs. I have a

perfectly good doctor at MDA, that hasn't tortured me, but as some of you may

know- insurance co. people aren't really human... they are robots or sadists or

something like that... I deeply hold that the way I was treated when first

diagnosed was the main reason that I spent the last 12 years in denial and

those years could have been spent much better in retrospect. (De Nile's not

just a river in Egypt!!)

***end rant***

I guess that's part of my sickness really, I hold a wee bit of a grudge, you

might

say. Having vented though, I feel better. Thanks again for the great group!!!

I have tried sleeping in AFOs. if the lack of comfort doesn't

get you the sound of the things clicking together everytime you

move will drive you crazy. My hubby couldn't stand the noise,

I tend to move my feet and legs a lot while I sleep.
