HI my name is , I have had alot of the same symptoms that

alot of you have. I have had both feet operated on. I also

have the pain in my shoulder, but not so much in my back. I

also have it beginning to take over my arms, and fingers. Those

of you who have had the foot surgery, do you have screws in

your toes and feet? If you do have you had any trouble with

them? Also how long did it take to get your disability for

those of you who get it? I applaud those of you who can still

work.

Thanks

Hi Ann,

I was diagnosed with CML in 2001 before Gleevec was approved. I have 3

children, twins who are now six and a 12 yr.-old son. It was terribly

difficult for me to think through to any kind of future for this first

few years. It takes a long time to come to peace with this diagnosis,

and as Moms we tend to think of our kids before ourselves.

Over time I was gradually able to put my fears behind me and move

forward with my life. There is so much hope for the future. CML is

really not the same disease that it was a few years ago. There are so

many new drugs in the pipeline, and so much reason for hope. I don't

pay attention to the statistics anymore. It may take you a while, too.

That's normal. I wish you peace and hope along the way.

Love,

Hello Ann

I am mom to who is 22 and diagnosed with CML in March this

year. We live in Chattanooga, TN. Feel free to email me privately

if you want to.

When he was diagnosed and we were walking through the hospital that

day, he said to me: " Mom, we are all going to die of something, I

am going to try my hardest to not let it be this! " I still choke up

at that....

I read so many things on survival rates that my head spun and it

really got me mad right when I was really depressed about

another 'survival rate' reading, I would notice the date - pre

Gleevec! The news since Gleevec is really good and then all the

others coming up behind it too.

I sat with and his girlfriend and told them to live life to

the absolute fullest. Not to spend much time wondering about how

long he was going to survive - one never really knows, even without

cancer.

Now I do know that I am on " the outside " of this cancer, but I see

how has heard me and is really doing well with it all. He is

going to college this semester and making long term plans. He is

fortunate too, that he can leave the worrying up to me. But

honestly, with the help of this board and the Asian support board, I

have learned to follow my own advice to him! We all keep a close

eye on things, follow doctors orders, keep doing the research and at

the same time try to live life to the fullest.

Ann, try not to be depressed and discouraged about the future -

its there - live it to the fullest!

Today was yesterdays future.

Love

Annie

> Hello to all:

Hello Ann

My name is I'm 25 and I was DX in 2003. I was

put on 400mg Gleevec I only hit remission January of this year. It

took me over two years to get in remission but I'm here and hope to

stay. As I was very young when I got DX, I really never thought my

live was over. Even though I postponed getting married I never

called it off, I will be getting married in 7 weeks. I get scared

that one day that the meds will not work, even though some people

say if the meds last 10 years that's a good sign, but I will still

only been 32 at the point, if it were to happen. It really hurts

knowing that I will be married soon and having to be careful,

because I can not conceive. I try not to let this Disease rule my

life, some days are better then others. I hope this helps.

Go to school and live life as best you can.

May son was diagnosed 2 months before he was to begin medical school. With

gleevec he began school, as planned, and he will graduate in less than a year.

Wow, just think he will be a Doctor. He could have sat home and worried or gone

on with life and he chose life. He has fathered a son while on gleevec and all

is A-okay with the son as well. He and his wife also have twins.

He is now on 800 mg. per day and not responding as well as he should so we are

looking forward to Disatinib (sp) coming on the market. All in all though, he is

great and so is his family and all of us.

Don't sit home and worry but decide that you don't have a life threatening

problem. Decide that you have a little problem that can be treated, just like

diabetes, and work with your Dr. for treatment. Thats what our son and wife and

we do and life is pretty darn good.

Best of luck

Penny M
