Hi group,

Well...good news, bad news, bad news and good news.

First off, the SS folks granted my disability first try. Bad news, they

didn't backdate it to when the disability caused me to quit working. They

said that when I went to the MDA doc in November to get braces was the start.

More bad news, I have to wait until June 25th to get my first

disability check (as if I haven't gone bankrupt enough already).

Good news...I'm getting married this Saturday! To a woman that was my

girlfriend in the mid '70s that I found a year ago on

Classmates.com...so all is not bad in the world. :-))

Congratulations! Is CMT the only reason for SSDI? I applied in Jan.

W/CMT & Degenerative Disk and am holding my breath cause I'm only 36.

: It depends on the type of Social Security you receive. If you receive

Social Security Income (SSI), which you usually receive if you have no work

experience or limited or Social Security Disability Insurance which is based on

previous work experience. If you receive that you can earn a maximum amount of

$800/mo and retain your full SSDI payment. Every January this amount increases.

Also with this program, there are trail work periods that you are entitled to

for at least 9 months. There are some states that have advocacy groups that you

can set up appointments with and they can explain Social Security to you with

all it's ins and outs. Any questions, feel free to email me directly.

ann,

I've written so much, I forget now what exactly what question you're

replying to. I don't want to screw anything up by not doing things in the

right order. Do I get the dr's paperwork first then go to ss?? My ins. won't

pay for the last 6 months of dr's visits, now he won't see me until I pay

him the 360.00 he thinks I owe, and I can't just stop the oxycontin

overnight. I've been on it for at least 2 years and alone costs 500.00. So

as of this time, I'm using my rent money...help!!!!

thanks,

Dear ,

Get yourself a lawyer that specializes in Social Security Disability. If you

explain what is going on,he may take the case on the basis that he won't get

paid until you do. Look in the phone book for your area and do this asap. It's a

long process and tiring but if you need information I'll try to support you.

If you h avent applied yet you can apply on your own. But you can also call

a lawyer who specialises in SSD. Here are a few answers I wrote.

If you want, you can email me privately and I well complete this list.

Cannot open, boxes of food, pull tabs on cans, open jars, hold heavy pan or

pots. Cannot walk inclines up or down without a railing. Cannot do steps

with a railing. Cannot walk more than 150 steps before legs go weak and feet go

numb. tire easily, cannot sit for long periods of time due to cramping behind

the knees. Cannot stand still because i sway and fall forward or go

backwards. Stand with gait wide spread for balance.

Cannot run....no matter what. Some food for thought when you fill out your

application.
