I have a question for anyone who wants to answer. If you could use a

sperm

bank or egg donor to avoid CMT would you?

I would definitely NOT use a sperm bank or egg donor! CMT is

frustrating but it is not the end of the world. It is not life

threatening. Children are the biggest blessing imaginable and I

would never take that opportunity away from my husband (or wife). A lot of

people who post here live full, complete and very happy lives.

I was watching the Ophra Show the other day and the guests were

people who were conceived through sperm banks. They all felt

" something missing " or a " missing connection " to the parent who

was not their biological parent! So I guess the " blood " connection

to your parents is still a very vital part of who you are. Not that

they were not happy in their present lives, because they were.

My 3 children are grown and healthy except for allergies. My oldest

son probably has CMT but has not been tested. He has had problems

with his feet since little. He wears orthodics in his shoes and has

since Jr. Hi. He is 37 now. My father, 2 brothers, and niece and I

have CMT. My father and older brother were more confined in the

later years of their lives, but the majority of their years, they led

pretty normal lives. Yes, they had to deal with the usual CMT

problems. ( Numbness and neuropathy in legs and feet, and frequent

falling etc.) They walked with a cane and then later with a walker.

I don't think anyone in my family would have " wished " for a different

father or mother because of the CMT connection. The transfer of

personality, physical characteristics, and other family traits means

a lot to each of us.

This just my experience.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!
