Sometimes not always I get the shakes from a diet coke and Now I am wondering if it isnt after it has warmed up, I do know never to drink caffeine products on a empty stomach as they will make me shake and feel out of sorts. Guest guest
Hi all, I wanted to share something my doctor mentioned on my last visit (yesterday). I was there for a routine check up and to get a refill for my asthma inhaler, and took the time to mention my CMT. I gave the doctor the list of meds that CMTA compiled that are considered neurotoxins and should be avoided. After reading them and nodding he said that they missed some. I asked him to elaborate, and he said that artificial sweeteners like aspartame, nutrasweet, etc are neurotoxic, especially when exposed to heat. The example he used is the diet soda left in the sun on a loading dock, that is completely out of your control. My jaw dropped, because I have had problems with those sweeteners in the past. Even sugarless gum with it's small amounts of chemical, causes me to shake, and feel very nervous, even as far as nausea, and increased heart beat. It usually subsides after eating something, drinking lots of water and/or laying down or meditating. My theory is that with less real food in my stomach, the chemicals have a greater effect. As a result, I read the label carefully, and don't buy that stuff. I recently stopped buying Wrigley (my longtime favorite WAS doublemint) chewing gum(s) because they have started adding artificial sweeteners to all our their products, in the name of " longer-lasting flavor " . I have been told that it's all in my head, and that the reaction that I feel is not possible. As a side note, I wrote Wrigley, and complained, in response they said that research shows that people like the new gum and sent me more of it, which I filed in the circular file. I also spoke with CMTA and they said that, as far as they know, CMT and artificial sweeteners aren't associated because CMT affects the peripheral nervous system, while the effects I have experienced affect the central nervous system. They seem to think that points to more of an allergic reaction. How about you? Does anyone else have this sensitivity/food allergy??? Some people are sensitive (or allergic) to aspartame (whether or not they have CMT) but most people do NOT have a problem with it. There is an urban legend sailing around the internet claiming that aspartame is the cause of practically all ailments known to mankind, but all of the claims have been proven false by the American Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis officials, and every other of the many medical groups that have checked out the claims. It's just a hoax. Keep in mind that aspartame does seem to increase a person's appetite, however. If you are sensitive to, (or allergic to) aspartame, (or to anything else), don't use it. It's as simple as that. >^.^< =================== ** When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other. -Chinese proverb ** Kat Seattle WA USA
Guest guest
, I don't know if its just the mint or the wintergreen or the spearmint flavors but it makes me sick to my stomach too and i seem to get sort of a sugar rush off of it. If i get hungry and i'm not going to be eating for a little while i'll pop in a piece of gum and it seems to give me that surge .... Maybe that's just me though , i dunno.... :-\ ?? - Brittney
Guest guest
, No problems here whatsover. But then I am pretty much a Vegan, fresh and raw foods, and solely drink artesian mineral water. Since I changed my diet (over a period of abou 4-5 years) I feel so much healthier, and I think this helps my energy level and my skin too. ~ G
Guest guest
Sorry , no side effects here. I almost hate to admit that I like on caffeine-free Diet Coke. I do know that it's terrible for me, but it's my only vice. \ Barb
