Guest guest
Muscle and Nerve Biopsy can provide direct histopathological evidence of nerve or muscle disease. Furthermore, it also provides the nature of the disease and its chronicity. Nerve and muscle specimens can be subjects of biochemical, metabolic, immunological and molecular genetic investigations if such studies are necessary. http://www.columbiaals.org/als-evaluation/muscle-nerve-biopsy.html
Guest guest
Hello all, it's Candy again, yes I've had an nerve removal from my left ankle and I regret this every day as the pain is terrible as I amm hard of hearing and the Dr. I went to had a very low voice and I even told him so as I asked him to speak louder and he didn't,so I misread his lips;to make the story short, he removed nerve instead of an muscle. So please everyone, do not let any Dr. remove any nerve from your body as yes you have to live with this pain the rest of your life and us CMTers don't need to add anymore pain than we have now. My question is what should a person do if this happened to them? Have good day all. Candy
Guest guest
Candy, not everyone " lives in pain " from having the sural nerve removed from their ankle. I had mine removed for biopsy 2 1/2 years ago. I have no pain whatsoever, just slight loss of sensation and spark-like twinges from time to time. Also, if you were supposed to have a muscle biopsy, that wouldn't have been taken from your ankle. It would have had to come from your bicep or thigh muscle. If I remember correctly, I had to sign a permission/release form before the procedure was done, making sure I understood the possible complications, so I'm assuming you probably did, too. Even though the feeling will never fully return to my ankle, I'm still glad I had the biopsy. It helped my doctors confirm my diagnosis. K. Guest guest
Candy, I, too, would have to agree that not everyone who has a sural nerve biopsy must live in pain. My own experience was quite positive and was done in 1989. I had very little trouble with odd sensations, and certainly not pain following the procedure. If your MD feels this is necessary in this day of DNA testing, you should certainly not worry about everlasting pain/discomfort. P.
