Guest guest
Hi Bob and all, It took a bit of getting used to using, but now the cane and I are happy when we must accompany one another. I decided that the I'd go for a lovely flower painted birch beauty with a nice easy -to-grip handle--something that matched my personality. After \ all, if you have to use one, why not make a proactive statement and give those staring something to marvel, rather than pity? Can't tell you how many times I've heard, " Wow, that's some cane, Lady! " Then comes the inevitable, " What do you need it for? " To which I smilingly reply: " Great conversation starter! " :-) -- L
Guest guest
Where did you get your walking staff?
Guest guest
Believe it or not, I found my walking staff at a store called " The Walking Store " which appears to be a national chain. They had a large selection of lengths, styles, and weights. If you find one to try, be sure it isn't short like a cane, nor heavy. I forgot to mention that mine also has a rubber tip so it isn't slippery. Kat Seattle WA USA
Guest guest
Hey ! I love your attitude about using the cursed cane! I need one that I can loop over my arm or hook on a counter when I need to use a 2 hand situation! So,,,,,,,,I have a blah aluminum silver, hooked handle, orthopaedic looking stick that is the pits.I know, I know.........it should not make any difference ...........but I am a #2 in a billion dollar business and it sends me up the wall when people either treat me as an invalid/ spastic, or have to ask, whatsa matter? You look OK to me!!!!!!!!!!!What would I do without my wonderful " manager " ....the long suffering Bette, The knower of ALL things and my wife, Thank God, who tells me.........Yes, Dork, you need to use the cane tonight at this function.......It's usual place is in the trunk of my car........but the truth is that using it makes all the difference in the world. As time goes on, the vanity B.S. is being overcome by the feeling of security. Tempus fugit. Thank you for a great attitude and putting things in their prospective! Guest guest
Since Kat mentioned " The Walking Store " , I guess it won't bother folks (I wasn't sure what our list policy was about mentioning vendors) so here is the place I obtained mine: http://www.houseofcanes.com/ They're called House of Canes and are a wonderful family company who have a compassionate understanding of mobility issues. A cane is such a personal help to those who use one (not unlike trying on different frames at the eyeglass shop) that it matters that you like what you use and that it fit what you'd like others to notice about you. :-) Enjoy! -- L
Guest guest
I am still stubborn with not using my cane or walker. The brain is fighting it. I get my AFOs tomorrow and I can hardly wait. in Oklahoma
Guest guest
I am so glad I was invited into this group. I use my cane everywhere but in my house. now I have something called Dupytren Contracture in my right hand and it is my cane hand. I will have surgery on this hand next week and I am already having trouble trying to use the left hand for my cane. I am not balanced at all for left handed use. so I guess I will be having some of my short naps as I fall down. but hey I can use the extra rest.
