Guest guest
Hello to all the new members and welcome, I have Type X. When my late wife and I were dating, I told her about my CMT and the genetic linkage. We had two beautiful twin daughters. My girls have Type X; however, they have been asymtomatic. My girls are also carriers of CMT. We told the girls about CMT once when they were 8 and I told them again when they were 15 (different versions for age appropriateness). It was harder to tell them when they were 15 - (my wife passed away when they were 10), so I did all the talking, answering questions, etc. Since then, they have grown eager to know more and one is now extremely interested in family genealogy. With their jobs, summer school and the beach, dear old Dad is sort of on his own to be with my " cronies " as the girls say. But the 3 of us were able to get away for 10 days of " family time " before summer started, so I'm not complaining. I do feel it is important to tell your children about CMT and do this at different times in their lives. This worked for me/us. In the past if I needed special accommodation in regards tot my CMT at work, or if I needed flex time, I told my employers about CMT. If you need something ask. Now that I am a partner in the corp., I encourage our employees/contractors, etc. to ask if they have a " need " regarding something like this.
