Good afternoon France.

I would be glad to introduce myself.

I am a 54 year old, divorced woman. I live in Florissant, Missouri,

USA. Florissant is a part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. I work

full-time as a senior computer programmer/analyst. I have been in

the information systems field of work about 15 years. I live alone

in a single family house with 4 Greyhounds and 1 English setter. I'm

active in the rescue effort for the retired racing greyhound and

usually have a foster greyhound or two, in addition to my own dogs,

that are looking for their forever homes as pets and companions. I,

also, enjoy most music, reading and home remodeling projects.

I consult with Dr. Glenn Lopate, an associate professor at Washington

University, at the neurological clinic at Jewish Hospital in

St. Louis. He is the one that established through medical history

that I had Type 2 CMT. I had previously had many other tests,

including DNA, to try and identify what was causing my neuropathy.

The only abnormality found was low thyroid which has since been

corrected by supplementation. CMT is inherited through my mother,

now deceased. Besides myself and my mother, my sister, an uncle and

a neice have been diagnosed with neuropathy.

I lead a pretty normal life until I was in my early 40's. I'd always

been an awkward child slow to learn to play sports and dance. For me

it was often mind over matter. If I studied the movements long

enough, I could visualize the movement and learn it. My right ankle

started to roll inward about 7 years ago and there has been steady

progress since then. I now wear AFOs due to foot drop and balance

problems. My left ankle rolls outward. My balance is still not good

with the AFOs but I manage okay. I do need a cane for very uneven

surfaces like a park or my back yard. My hands are also affected. I

do not have the fine motor skills in my hands any longer. It is

difficult to button clothing, etc. Overall I do okay.

Take care,
