Brittney,

I have the CPK test done every year along with all other regular blood

work. No problem. Just a draw of some blood from me in a few minutes,

the lab does the rest. The doc looks at all the results to make sure

everything is in balance. My CPK levels have always been normal. So, try

to relax and let us know how it goes. ~ Gretchen

CPK info: (from http://www.saanendoah.com/hemo-cpk.html)

AKA: CK; creatine kinase; creatine phosphokinase

When a muscle is damaged, CPK leaks into the bloodstream. Determining

which isoenzyme

(specific form of CPK) is elevated will help determine which tissue has

been damaged.

CPK testing is used to determine:

determine the extent of muscular disease

diagnose heart attack

Factors that can affect test results include intramuscular injections,

trauma to muscles, recent surgery, and vigorous and prolonged exercise.

Drugs that can increase CPK measurements include amphotericin B,

ampicillin, some

anesthetics, anticoagulants, aspirin, clofibrate, dexamethasone,

furosemide, and morphine.

The total CPK test is about 70% accurate because there are many causes

of elevated levels. Isoenzyme testing (for individual types of CPK) is

about 90% accurate.

Gretchen,

Oh thank Goodness! I thought it was going to be

something awful again like more shocking or something

and i'll be honest , i was NOT looking forward to

that!! Thank you all so much for telling me it's just

simple blood work! I can handle that easy , my whole

life prior to my diagnosis of CMT , they took blood

from me all the time trying to find out what was wrong

with me! Needless to say i live in a small town with

unexperienced doctors who didn't have a clue to what

was making my legs cramp.. Growing pains anyone? But

anyways, thank you for taking away the fear that had

set in , i feel tremendous relief! thanks again :)
